QPI Link Fast Control

QPI Frequency The QPI (QPI=Quick Path Interconnect) clock speed determines the bandwidth available to all the connected components. The QPI is the main link with the IOH(Input Output Hub - formerly the Northbridge). One of the real neat things is that the QPI allows the elimination of CPU/Memory bottlenecks. Each core has it's own dedicated scalable memory instead of competing for it via the FSB, however if a core needs to access the memory of one of the other cores, it can do this directly via the QPI thus eliminating the bottleneck.

QPI Speed = QPI Frequency Multiplier x BCLK. Can be left on auto or run at lowest possible value.

Manufacturers Link: G.SSkill
The Chips used are Samusng HFC-0

I'm using this kit with the DFI DK X58-T3eH6 in our Living Review, will post results as I start getting the overclocking results.

The Kit come in a large blister pack.

Modules have individual serial numbers.

Default Conclusion And Final Thoughts

DFI DK X58-T3eH6 Conclusion and Final Thoughts.

I've held back writing this section to give myself time to use other X58 boards. I was very impressed with this board and comparison has only enhanced that impression.

As I said in the introduction, this is my first DK board and I wondered how the 6+2+2 Phase PWM hybrid phase would compare with the full digital phase boards, such as the 8-Phase Volterra Full Digital PWM DFI Lanparty UT X58-T3eH8 found on more expensive boards. This is a question I've seen asked many times around the forums in respect to DK boards. In terms of stability and over clocking on this board, there is no difference.

The board ran well out the box :- All Auto - 180 BCLK , so no steep learning curve to overclocking.

I've been able to run 24/7, on air, at 4000 20x200 Ram 8 = 1600 8-8-8-21 with Vcore=1.375v and Vtt=1.24v.

On air, the board continued to run well when paired with the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler testing 3.6~3.8Ghz are likely 24/7 clocks, the limiting factor here being CPU temperature.

As with most DFI boards the Bios is excellent and well thought out. There are a few niggles in overclocking but these are mainly down to the X58 chipset rather than DFI.

In respect to the chipset, the main thing I missed on the X58 was the lack of a x9 memory multiplier. For example running at BCLK of 200Mhz the ram multiplier options are:-
  • x8 giving 1,600Mhz ram or
  • x10 giving 2,000Mhz
  • why no x9 = 1,800Mhz ?
The only real criticism for DFI is that with the adoption of ABS has meant the BIOS doesn't support XMP memory profiles. However as we have seen the auto settings do a pretty good job, at least on this board.
If you want to see what your XMP profile is there are utilities such as Everest (motherboard/SPD tabs) which you can use, this is useful for getting a handle on the advanced timings, if you want to get the maximum performance, or stability.

Pros.
  • Detachable Northbridge Cooler
  • Good layout
  • Great Overclocking
  • Great BIOS - As usual
  • Price
  • Easy Connect
Cons
  • No XMP Memory Profile
  • 2x Floppy Power Connectors are fiddly to connect if running crossfire. Would be nice if a Molex / Floppy connection was included as most Power supplies only have two, so if your running crossfire with a floppy you can be stuck.

Smashing pics mate ........ looking forward to seeing the results as i quite fancy this board for my upgrade to I7.

Hopefully it'll be a viable option as i don't fancy paying nearly £300 for its big brother !

Keep up the good work matey
