hmm i might be making a wise decision and giving my max formula SE back tomorow (bought mine november 1 and i can return within 7 days)
along with my supposedly temporary ASUS HD2600XT GPU but since no mobo, it is useless hanging onto this GPU ( i was going to use it till next-gen with DX10.1 and PCIe2.0 ATI/NVIDIA come out faster than GTX)
i am willing to wait 2-3weeks to get the non-SE later revision maximus formula to avoid a faulty troublesome mobo with incompatible ram/ psu/harddrives, i was expecting to buy a top-end stable board not a piece of dung stuck to the bottom of my shoe
thanks for all your help though guys, i learnt alot reading this thread.
to everyone with problems i hope everything goes well in the end. =)

This is why I wait and use the official BIOS files that ASUS puts on their site ... I think I am going to stick with 0505 seems ok to me, I don't seem to be having any problems with it. It does have a few bugs that I have found like like taking ages to POST when certain features are enabled but I don't use them so just disable them. So I think I will stick with this one for a while untill I see any major reason to update, like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I've currently got 4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz modules which now won't work at all in any combination. Although they did work fine for a week with all 4 installed.
What have other people got or tried with this board. For now just looking to buy a couple of decent 1GB sticks to get system up and running. Ideally they would need to be stable at 450MHz as I'm still looking at an 8x450 overclock on my Q6600 G0 CPU.
What would people recommend.

Hmm, I guess I should hold off new Bios then since I'm using same RAM, Crucial Ballistix BL2KIT 12864AA804 right? Although I only have 2 sticks (2Gb).

I'm using 4x1GB of Ballistix and they are doing fine now.
I suspect that he has a bad board or 1 or more sticks of bad RAM.

I'm about to try this build again with my 2nd maximus formula and 2nd set of g.skill 4gb (2x2gb) pc2-8000 ram with a q6600 g0. 2 questions, 1st is the ram overvolting take care of in 0602 and if not what is it now. 2nd what is the status of the vista reboot issues that seemed to plague the earlier bios revisions?
Thanks for the review too clunk, i've been following it since I decided to buy one of these boards and it's helped me through the 1st and hopefully last rma on this board.

Welcome to the forums
Good luck with the second board.
RAM overvolt is stil there in 0602, anything up to .09v on mine.
I havent used this board with vista, so no idea about the restart problems. Did i mention that I hate vista? .gif)

nice...new board booted first try, flashed to 0602 bios set the oc to (just a little for me) 333fsb, 1002 on the ram with dram voltage at 2.0 (just in case, supposed to be 2.1 @ 1000mhz) it's spamming occt with passes as we speak 2 hours in.
Also, thanks to the pics you posted I found a nb cooler that will fit. Kudos to the guys at DangerDen for getting the new mcp tdx and maze5 chipset coolers into production so fast, they work like a champ. Now just have to cut a copper base on the cnc router tomorrow for that pesky sb.

I was told yesterday that the maximus is now EOL, so anyone that returns a faulty one, wont get a maximus in return, unless the place they got it from has left over stock - not the greatest support really!
