Default Could This Be A Possible Cause Of Dead Ballistix?

I was examining yet another set of dead Ballistix PC2-8500 and I noticed that the heatspreaders weren't making contact on one side.

These things do get hot under load, even with a fan blowing on them, so imagine how hot they get when they only have a small pocket of air between them and a thermal pad.

It's only a theory, and I do realise that heatspreaders are arguably not needed, but in this case, it seems that they could be causing a build up of heat.

What do you reckon?

And how are yours? I've checked 5 sets, including Tracers and 4 of them were like this.

That's certainly not ideal and I would say it could well be a contributing factor. Checking mine, they aren't like that at all. No gaps, no nothing, just looks like a solid yellow mouth organ.

Just looks like the glue man couldn't be arsed at the end of the shift

Dunno, 2 sets here, and 3 that have been returned that I have checked have been like this, bought at different times from different places, and 2 of the sets are Tracers.

And I know for a fact that 2 of the sets have been run at absolutely the stock 2.2v.

I have two sets of tracers with 3 modules like that, and 6 standard sets, of which 9 modules are like that. Funnily enough I rang Crucial about this the other day and they said they definitely should NOT be like that, and it was grounds for RMA replacement from the supplier....... Only had 1 dimm from 1 set die so far though
