Here is a full modding guide for the Ati HD4870X2 gfx card.
you need a screwdriver and a sharp knife and a good solder iron and some small wires
And 2x50 Ohm and 1x50K Ohm Multiturn Vrs
And a lot of paticence.
The first thing we have to start with is to dismantle the card.
The card it self.
The back of the card.
And now to unscrew all the screws.
And then we can take the back cover of the card, be carefull not to harm the mempads
as you are gonna use them again.
And then we take the Gpus back plates of.
Here is the soldre areas we are gonna use in a little wile.
Now the back plates are off.
And there is 2 small screws holding the cooler in the front of the card.
And then the fan header is to come off as well.
Here is the cooler off the card and look at the white pads take xtra care not to ruin them
because they are wery importent.
Now to dismantle the cooler it self.
And now to the funn stuf.
The first in the world with a Vmem mod for the HD4870x2 cards...
Discovverd by my self(riska)
And the Vgpu1 Vmod
Vgpu0 mod you have to scratch the paint of the card to get down to the solder pad.
Voltage points and negative to ground.
Now to the finnaly gettho mod for the cooler.
Before u put the Gpu backplates on again you take some small plasic washers and
put them in the center of the gpuback so the backplate will be more apart from the print
thus giving it more pressure for the coppercooler resualting in way better temps.
I have done 5 cards this way now and it works great the cooler can be run at higher
fanspeed with the same noise and the card is about 20-25c lower at load temps.
And the cores can be run at 1.40-1.425v without a problem on stock cooler.
I have got my card up to 950 on both cores and the mem on 1090 stable and
1125 not stable but i have water on the card.
Note dont go any higher than 1.75-1.80v on the mems becaus they will articfact alot.
