This is the fourth of our reviews of Xigmatek coolers, today we’re looking at the HDT-SD964. This is a 92mm CPU Cooler, a little smaller than the 120mm models we’ve looked at so far. It does boast four heatpipes (aka Heatpipe-Direct-Touch), one more than the 120mm 1283 for example. This size will be attractive to anyone running with a narrow case, or just preferring a more compact cooling solution.
HDT coolers have made a big impact on the market in the last few months, providing cooling performance better than or equal to many of the top end coolers. What’s also of interest is that this has been done with a significantly lower street price.
HDT simply means Heatpipe Direct Touch. In traditional coolers the heat is transferred from the CPU IHS, to the CPU Cooler block, then to the heatpipes HDT coolers integrate the heatpipes into the CPU Cooler block, hence the heatpipes are in direct contact with the CPU IHS.
