Written by David Marshall

We started this guide in October 2007, just after we first opened, but never got round to finishing it for one reason or another.  A few weeks ago, We started working on it again with the intention of it being a quick walk through, but it has turned into a huge article with over seventy images.  We've tried to keep it as simple as possible with beginners in mind, but at the same time, tried to keep it interesting and informative for slightly more seasoned water coolers.  Have we succeeded? Let us know what you think!  Read on to find out...

The X58 chip set has been around for almost two years, and in that time, we've seen a succession of motherboards, all purporting to offer something extra over their predecessors, today we have a recent offering from Asus in the form of their P6X58D-E (P6X from here on in!).  The P6X is a fully loaded mid range motherboard with all the usual trimmings, only this time we have two SATA III 6GB ports and two USB 3.0 ports to add a little future proofing.  To make things a little more interesting, Asus have added some nice overclocking features, so we are going to go at this from a "budget" overclocking perspective.

Here at Clunk.org.uk, we appreciate a finely made PC chassis, so when Corsair asked if we'd like to give their 800D Obsidian a spin, we jumped at the chance.

The 800D has been around for a while now, making it's debut in August 2009 and has received a number of accolades in that time.  The case itself if huge, in fact it's one of the biggest conventionally shaped PC cases I've ever used.  Add to that, the fact that there are a number of features that have been on practically every enthusiast's wish list for years and the 800D starts to look rather interesting, but how will it perform?  Read on to find out...
