Evercool Transformer 4 HPJ-2025 CPU Cooler Review Print E-mail

Conclusion.

Street Price - The only place I can find this cooler listed is Newegg, where it's priced at $43 which equates to around £33.50 or €37 including VAT. That's pretty much on a par with say the Xigmatek Dark Knight-S1283V which retails at around $46 adding in the price of the optional mounting bracket, which makes it reasonably comparable to the Transformer 4.

The cooler is well priced compared to the coolers we have put it up against in this test, the best of which, the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme is $63.

As testing showed though, the price seems to have been achieved by using lower quality components, namely, the thermal paste and fans. Our tests show that substituting these for better quality components yielded an extra 7°C average bringing the tower into close contention with some of the top-of-the-range coolers.

The mid range/budget CPU Cooler market is highly competitive and Evercool have attempted to provide a complete package with two fans and a universal mounting at a budget price point. It may have been better had they used pushpins with an optional fitting kit selling separately as Xigmatek have done. Likewise, including the mounting wires for a second fan, but include a good single fan.

To sum up, we have a good universal mounting system and cooling tower, which is hindered by the included fans and paste.  Given that the thermal paste included in most budget priced coolers is a small 1gm tube, I would have thought it would be in Evercool's interest to include a sample of the premium Cruise Missile paste to promote that product and improve the Transformer 4's performance.

Pros
  • Decent cooling tower
  • Price
  • HDT
  • "Universal" fitting*
  • Easy fitting.
Cons
  • Fans are quiet, but offer poor cooling in comparison to other products.
  • Included thermal paste is not top quality.
  • *Not LGA-1156 compatible.
