There is not too much choice of quality 60mm fans that i know of, I may try one from SilenX for the CPUs PWM, but i'm not sure if it's worth it...
Will update if i do try one.

Are acousti-fan dust proof parts any good they do 60/70mm versions?

Really nice mod!
I'm looking to go the same path as I have seen one of the VRM sensor go up to 145 C with furmark. Interestingly enough the card doesn't go to a black screen at that temp with the catalyst 8.8 beta (they probably have just increased the safety temperature limit of the card from the 8.7).
Now to the question: Is there a reason why you didn't use the thermal pad provided with the HR-09? I plan on using it as it should solve the problems of the small caps being taller than the chips, but I was wondering how much of a loss of efficiency to expect compared to a direct contact.
Also I was thinking about using something as this: AAVID THERMALLOY | MQ100-1 | Heatsinks | Fans, Heatsinks & Thermal Management | Farnell AU as a backplate, Any thoughts about it?

It is long enough, you'll have ofcourse to drill the holes and make sure he tape you use is nonconductive.
Check for components on the back of the card as it is quite large.

Using the pad you sure lose way more efficency than using metal shims, and i'm not sure it would solve the problem as the pad is very soft and if you apply any pressure the cooler won't sit flat.
The problem is not the contact with the other components, it's that there is no proper connection between the base of the heatspreader and the power transistors.

I did try the thermal pad 1st, it proved less than useless - the VRM temps actually went up. They only began to go down after using direct contact. The best temps were a results of trying to increase the amount of contact and slightly more pressure.

Yeah, the thermal pad does not work. Not only is it too thick and actually causes more heat to be trapped but it also does not let you make proper direct contact with the VRMs. The shim method is a lot better.

wow, this vreg mod looks awesome, atm i have just some noname alum bga sinks + tape on there with a 80mm fan. they hit 110C according to the new gpu-z that shows temps of all the chips.

which hr-09 would i need to buy? the rest of the parts i have around my house.
