I suggested the HR09 Type 2 because it is possible to adjust the distance between the pushpins and sit it aligned.
I know what you mean. The determining factor however is really the spacing between the two mounting holes on the opposing sides of the card. If this spacing is anywhere in the range of 12-18mm, or then the block should fit just fine. But, like I said though, I do not have a handy 4870 to try it...

As promised close ups on the changes:

It aint pretty and a 60mm fan lashed to the HR09 will prolly make some difference too.

hope these help.

12-18? the distance required is 84mm.

I meant width wise since two holes are not perfectly in line. Either way, I tried the Type 4, it's too short. The only size that fits is the 70mm side of the HR-09 Type 2. It's too wide but the fin idea seems to solve that reasonably well. I'm in the middle of cutting some fins myself

Its a pity they didnt mke the type4 with a useable longer top like the other models. aw well this will do for now.

I did mount an 80mm fan to the Hr09 with cable ties, but due to the fact i have installed an HR05 i cant use the top PCIe slot and the middle slot isnt high eneough to accomodate the height of the 80mm fan. I will try a 60mm one and that should be perfect.

Post a pic of the fan when you have it

I'm curious to see how much difference it will really make

Good I'm really curious.
I think that your temps will improve expecially if you dont have direct airflow in that area, ie a side fan.

They don't look like they are in need of much improvement,

Still nice to see the results. Don't those little fans tend to be very noisy buggers? They tend to whine a lot more than bigger fans. I have a single 120mm blowing across the top slot towards the back of the case in my Antec 900. I noticed that when I installed it behind the 4870 XOC BE in addition to the HR-09 mounted on the back of the card, I managed to squeeze out 860/1160 out of the card quite stably. This wasn't enough for me however so I decided to return it

"Super RV770" was not super enough for me

With this new method I am almost tempted to get another XOC BE and try to see how well it does when those VRMs are cooled to < 90C. At the OC above even with the fan I was still getting >125C VRMs. Definitly a link though between it and clocks
