Yeah, i'm using the TR bolt thru kit from my old TRU. It's not filed and it fits about 0.5mm above the NB heatsink. By filing it i would probably not be able to mount it the way i want.

Another user, on another forum, is using Xigmatek's kit with the same DFI X48-T2R motherboard and he can't mount the thing horizontally because of the NB heatsink getting in the way.

Here's a pic to see what i'm talking about. Just fits above NB. Click to enlarge... you can see how those thing protrude thru the mobo.

Here are my temperatures with it mounted like this by the way.

Do you think filing would improve my temps? I could force the damn thing to screw in. Will bend some fins in the process but no biggie

That won't work.
This is what wants filing down , so it doesn't protrude through the motherbboard.

yes , it's the only reason for doing it. It makes sure that the block then seats properly on the IHS oif the CPU.

OMG! I dropped 11C!!! I love this Xigmatek.

It fitted above the NB heatsink without problems by the way.

Edit: Re-ran prime95, same room temp, and now it's showing 67-68C per core for some reason. It still dropped by 5-6C but oh well... Hell if i know WTF is happening here but that's the last time i'm taking it apart this month

Yeah, i shaved those things clean off Don't know what happened though. I installed everything, started up Prime95, after 5 minutes i had 60C per core which was awesome. I then closed Prime and started browsing / etc. After like 10 minutes i re-started Prime to recheck the temps, same room temperature (AC was running) and it went up to 67-68 out of the blue, in only one minute. Dunno wtf happened

It's still an improvement but it's very puzzling.
