Great job....I'm wondering if there is a difference in performance if you turn the cooler 90 degrees so that the cores are straight accross the centre of one heatpipe?

Tried it briefly initially , didn't notice any real difference.
Will add it on to todo list for next mobo

Yes , think decibel rating is the most notorious statistic that we've seen in the past, being somewhat exaggerated shall we say

Hmm. I'm using the same heatsink, with the red scorpion fan and my old Thermalright bolt thru kit that came with my TRU. The temp differences you shown are massive. I'm getting around 72C max with my E8500 just like you were getting with your CPU.

Did the Xigmatek mounting kit arrive yet to see how that one goes? I'm curious if it's any different then the Thermalright. Can you buy that IFX mounting kit anywhere?

Haven't seen any around to be honest.

I'd try just filing down the tops of the Thermalright bolt thru kit , I did it with mine & jobs a good 'un.

I don't quite understand the whole "filling the tops" part Do you mean those small things on the backplate that you screw the HSF into? They come out of the mobo like 2-3mm's or so. What do you mean fill them?

Yes File them down so they don't protrude. Use a metal hand file, takes about 2 minutes.

Ah, i understand now. If i'm gonna do that i won't be able to mount it in the regular way because of the DFI's NB heatsink... i won't be able to screw it in think. I'd have to mount it vertically which kinda sux and gives bad temps always Ah, the hassles
