Default Razer Death Adder Mini Review

Razer Death Adder

Due to the small but slightly annoying lack of a thumb button on my Sharkoon Gamer Rush (No good for knifing campers in COD4) I had to find something better suited to my needs.

So I grabbed one of these from my local computer store for £32.50.

Here are the published specs
  • 1800dpi Razer Precision™ 3G infrared sensor
  • Ergonomic right-handed design
  • 1000Hz Ultrapolling™ / 1ms response
  • Five independently programmable Hyperesponse™ buttons
  • On-The-Fly Sensitivity™ adjustment
  • Always-On™ mode
  • Ultra-large non-slip buttons
  • 16-bit ultra-wide data path
  • 6400 frames per second (5.8 megapixels per second)
  • 60–120 inches per second and 15g of acceleration
  • Zero-acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon feet
  • Gold-plated USB connector
  • Seven-foot, lightweight, non-tangle cord
  • Approximate size: 128mm (length) x 70mm (width) x 42.5mm (height)
The Mouse is light weight and has four buttons consisting of two normal and two where your thumb hangs out.
The two main buttons are made from a similar type of material as the Sharkoon mouse and has a velvety feel to it.
The two thumb buttons are made of a smooth glossly type of plastic and all button respond sharply when pressed.
The mouse wheel feels nice and taught when scrolling, it is made from a silicone type material and lights up blue.
The feet on the mouse are very smooth and it glides, well, wonderfully.
The Cable is a decent length too.

It comes with its own software suite to help configure all the various axis and sensitivities which i played with and then promptly ignored as i can set anything i need changed in windows on in game.

It feels like a definate upgrade from the Sharkoon, which i really liked and given it was only £15 i would still say it was considerably better value and bar the lack of a thumb button i would still be using it.

This mouse at more than twice the price certainly feels well made but no more so than the Sharkoon.

I am happy with my purchase and should i find anything i dont like about this mouse (and so far i cant) i will amend this thread.

You wait till you've adjusted to it over a period of time, it's a very slick bit of kit that grows on you. Took me ages to get used to it properly but once you get the hand positioning right for forward / backward button speed it's a very intutitive design, I reckon.

Funny you say that ,
When i 1st installed it and started playing i kept the arch of my hand in the shape of the Sharkoon and it felt wrong like the Razer wasnt supportive. Then i starting try to push down on the Razer and found it helped me keep my aim better controlled even though i am using it at a higher sensitivity.

I hope ill notice other differences as i get used to it.

Sounds dumb but key break through for me with it was finally placing my thumb nail on the top plastic notch on the back button (left side button).

I then arched over to the other side, leading with the little finger, and found the top notch on the forward button. That was it, job done, the rest fell into place very naturally. The marker for me for perfect positioning is the thumb nail on the plastic notch, no need to even look for the correct positioning any more.

When you say notch, is that the edge of the hole the button comes out off with the little finger on the gap between the right button and base?

I have been leaving my little finger on the mat as i can steady the mouse due to it being very slick on its feet.

Ah. I just looked at the picture in your top link and mines the diamondback 3G, which if you look closely, is slightly different: Razer Diamondback 3G Gaming Mouse

dark, deadly, diabolical

I have the Razer Copperhead and my young fella has the Razer Diamonback.

My laser started to go stupid after a 12 month thrashing and my local pc said "NO FAULT FOUND" (Rubbish)

Mine has on the fly changeable profiles and obviously the sensitivity.

I have 4 "SIDE BUTTONS" and the obvious regular ones. the diamondback has the same but NO PROFILES or Onboard Memory.

I was devistated when my mouse came back from a warranty repair after 6 weeks with NO FAULT FOUND, so I decided to pull it apart and go to town on trying to fix it.

All it needed was the laser re-seated and it was good as gold again.

The reason for my ramble is, I paid around $100 AUD for mine (50 pound) and I can't bear the thought of another mouse now I'm used to it.

the buttons on the RHS are near impossible to reach unless you can turn your hand inside out, so the buttons for them are the on the fly sensitivity and profile changing buttons (As I don't need them all the time)

once you settle in with it, it will be "RAZER, FTW!!!"

Great mouse, and for left handers too.

I'm interested to see some Raptor Mice from Germany that we are getting down at my local PC store for Christmas. If my mouse laser has played up once, it may be a matter of time before I have to repair it again.

Raptor gear = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but should be worth it's weight in gold.

I had a Raptor M1 which was only £11 here.... it was pretty simple (not many buttons, etc.), but it did it's job well, I really liked it. I'd be interested to try one of their newer products too.
