Didn't you swap the SATA cable on your HDD for the DVD drive?....didn't the HDD problems go away?

Actually now you come to mention it, i think i had a similar problem when installing Win7 7k on my R0 w/AHCI. In the end i made a boot disk with Vlite and slipped in the Intel ICH9R drivers and the latest matrix manager in the apps.
The only other thing i remember doing different was not formatting/deleting partitions or owt on the array i just let windows sort it out for itself, worked a charm.

i'll be home tomorrow night if you still need it looked at.

Thanks affiliate. Build 7000 installed fine, might try vLite. Unfortunately I have all my OSs on 1 drive where I want to install win 7. I don't want to have to re-install everything just for win 7.

Agreed, Windows blows crocodile knobrot. You should install Fedora 11 Beta release notes. Get the KDE version far better than anything Windows has to offer.
