Good point, the retailer that I bought it from only provides a 30-day limited warranty on motherboards and many other "retail" items they sell, although many oem items have 1 year.
Glad to hear that your retailers handle rma's for the first year, that is good business.

Hi again Clunk
I have been communicating with another fellow who is having this same link width issue with his DFI LP UT P45-T2RS and a GTX260. Anyhow, I won't mention the forum to avoid any wrongdoings on this great forum here, but there was a bios just released for that board that is supposed to address this issue. In the case of the LP UT board, it is beta bios 1028: L245DA28 and the description from DFI reads:
"Major Reasons Of Change:
Fixed PCIE 4,2 Slot X4, X1 issue"
Also of interest is that he tried a 4870 and had no issues with the link width, only with his GTX260.

So, it seems that this issue is also happening with some other DFI P45 boards, and there may very well be a bios fix for it. Haven't seen anything at the DFI LP JR bios download site yet though. I would appreciate it if you could advise if you see anything more about this. I am still trying to control myself from pushing that order button for an Asus P5Q-Pro

Thanks for letting us know Since you first posted, there's been two or three people on different boards with similar trouble - supershanks is one of them and he is using an older 8800GTS 320MB on the new UT P45-T3RS

Looks like it might be worth holding off pulling the trigger on the Asus for the moment

Wow, a different card (although still Nvidia) and with the DDR3 board version. Well, as I said before, "other than that", this board has been great. Much as my old LP UT NF4 Ultra-D was, back in my Opteron days. Once I got that baby set up right, it would fly
Haven't broken down and bought the Asus yet. As long as there is hope!

The link doesn't work today, I think they are in the middle of a site upgrade.

So that BIOS wasn't the correct one? it was showing as the DDR2 JR version last night for me?

Yes, DFI have snazzied up their site lately! I also haven't found any new beta or official bios for the LP JR there yet. However, I just found out that the new beta bios 1028 for the LP UT P45-T2RS did not correct the link width problem for the other fellow I mentioned. He is still stuck at 8x link width. You may have been right when you said that a new bios may not be able to cure this issue.
Damn, that P5Q-Pro is on sale this week at my supplier, and there is also a mail-in rebate, as well as free shipping! I don't think I can hold out much longer.......................................

Compulsive upgrader would be an appropriate term for me
I am going to wait until payday (Monday) before pushing the order button.
Unless someone comes up with a miracle cure for the DFI link width issue this weekend. Hah!
I am thanking you for this post because you gave me a good laugh

I'm ordering the JR P45 or DK P45 in the next couple of days but can't decide which one to get. Both boards are exactly the same price on Scan, so which one would you choose ?

I'm not looking for massive overclocks, I'll be happy with 4GHz, which I can't reach on my current MSI board, and also, do I need to buy a new cooler or will the Tuniq fit these boards ... tia

my system: MSI P35 NEO2-FIR (rma'd after 10 months good service) - E8400 (C0) - Tuniq - 2GB Ballistix PC2-8500 - Powercolor 1GB HD4870 - Corsair VX 550W

I could be wrong, but i read the specs above as being x8 width slots. In other words, the mobo is hard wired at x8. If it is, you will have a very long wait for a bios fix.
