Got some news about your problem. They have tested with a GTX280 and can't find any immediate problems, but they said a few things you can try.

The number one issue is that the PSU isn't providing the correct amount of voltage to the card at power on - I think I might have already mentioned this, but I had several Enermax Galaxy's that did that.

Also, remove the card, clear the CMOS then put it back and try again.

Failing that, try connecting one of the small power connectors near the PCI-E slots, the ones that look like floppy connectors (this could be related to the first point).
Wow! More info. Thanks again Clunk.
I got through the first round of testing. I confirmed that there is the same linkwidth issue at stock clocks and bios settings. Then I checked which video card drivers I have used since I first got the DFI board, I have used the last three revisions from Nvidia, currently on 180.43. All have the same issue. I don't leave my card overclocked but verified that the issue happens whether it is or not. Then I went back to my current settings and checked that EIST and C1E settings suggestion you mentioned earlier, tried with both enabled, both dis-abled, and with one or the other enabled. What I did was re-boot the system and check the linkwidth each time, it still sometimes was at 8x, sometimes at 4x.
    So, no luck there.
I will try out these latest suggestions and report my results.
The last suggestion seems the most likely to me, connecting the aux. power by the pci-e slot. I hadn't done this on this board yet, but I have used the molex-type aux. connectors on some other boards, the last being my former Abit IP-35 Pro.
    Thanks again!

    Thanks
I'm just going to quickly post a couple shots to illustrate this for your benefit Mullet, I think it does relate to the topic of the board itself for those who may wish to add another cooler to the nb sink.

Are you using 4 or 8 pin 12v EPS? If you are on the 4 pin, use the 8 pin - I forgot to mention that earlier

    Thanks again for more tips!
I am using the 8-pin from my PC Power And Cooling 750 watt power supply. I could not find any of the small power connectors that look like floppy connectors by the PCI-E slots, do they have these on the LP JR boards?
I have seen it mentioned they have them on some of the ATX versions of this board. I had a good peek for them when I removed the videocard and cleared the cmos!
No luck yet, but I will keep testing, will try to round up another power supply to test the possible lack of voltage at power-on.
I think a friend of mine has an Enermax Galaxy I could borrow

I would steer clear of the Enermax Galaxy if i were you. There is a long history of them not playing well with most DFI mobo's.

Or even with other X38/X48 boards. Definately not a lucky project.

Yep, sorry, you are right, there aren't any extra power connectors on the JR

As kifit says, the Galaxy is a problematic PSU, so it's not the most reliable one for testing.

You are welcome, Mullet. I haven't used any quad-cores yet as I am still a hard-core dual-core guy. But I would think the Q6600 should run fine, I think Mr. Clunk would have some good advise.

I was only kidding guys, I joked about the Galaxy after I saw Clunk's post about them being problematic

Thanks, I did look hard for them though! One less thing to connect. I have my doubts that the PCP&C power supply is giving any problems however. I hope
