Working on new settings. Tried the settings posted by Praz for an 8x multi at a fsb of 550. Very good settings there, thanks Praz. My 8600 is not quite stable at those voltages though. Had to bump the v-core up a notch to 1.392v. And the multi to 8.5 at a fsb of 518 for 4403MHz for stability as it isn't quite right at an 8x multi. Been stable in Orthos and OCCT for only a few minutes so far at 8.5, needs too much juice to run at an 8x multi for 4400MHz or to run at anything higher stable regardless of multi.
Looking good so far, the drop in the multi from my previous 9.5 gives a performance boost.

Still have the Link Width issue, don't know why but otherwise ok, I have seen some other postings on other forums where others are having this problem too so it's not just me, some kind of quirk with this board and possibly the GTX280.

Damn good board regardless, my 8600 isn't the best but holds it's own. Still trying to break 20 grand in 3D06, got to within 98 points at 8x563, not completely stable there though. Need better drivers from Nvidia! The new 180.43's are good, but hoping for better drivers soon.

It's Remembrance Day here in Canuckland today so I have the day off from work.
Arrgh, Orthos just stopped after 23 minutes, may have to bump up the v-core another notch. I don't like to go past 1.4000v though
Update: Installed P95 v. 2.57, ran for an hour at same settings with no crashes, same for OCCT. Looking quite stable so far

Default Nice rig retro...

Don't want to take this off topic too much here (Hi Clunk BTW) can you create a thread with pics of your system please bud? I have a Mini-p180 also and am looking to move to this new DFi board and use a HR05-SLi cooler on the NB. Am interested to see how your system looks with the Sli cooler on bud.

Thanks

Sure, I will take some photos when I get my DSLR back from my wife tomorrow. Never sure whether to use Photobucket or whatever to upload the pics but I will find something.
Been happy with this case and the build, honestly, the cable management is far better than it was in my Stacker, unless I were to drill some holes in the mobo tray of the Stacker, which is a pita, and there is still more space for the cables behind the tray in this Mini P180 then in most cases. It's really an amazing little case.
The TR HR-05SLI fits fine on the nb, I did replace the stock bolts with some #4 nuts and bolts and used plastic washers for insulation. Actually, I took off both the heatpipe assembly and the sb heatsink, cleaned off the factory thermal goop, and applied MX2 to all the chips. I re-used the thermal pad that comes with the mosfet heatsink. Then I used the #4 nuts and bolts on all the attachment points. I hate push-pins, they are not very secure. I had to position the HR-05SLI just slightly off-centre to clear my GTX280, and chose to run it fanless, (had an 80mm fan on it before with a previous build, but this is nice and quiet.). Lapped it too. It works great, and I really like this new case. I did a few other small mods which I will post when I get the photos.
I think you will be pleased using the DFI board and an HR-05SLI in the Mini, it's a very good combo.

Maybe a BIOS update will fix the linkwidth issue, I can ask DFI if there's anything they know of.

Photobucket is fine for the pics on here mate.

Sounds like you are doing well with the JR...4400 seems about the average before the voltage goes silly

Thanks for the advise! I did update to the latest DFI bios posted about two weeks ago, but perhaps there will be an update soon. Would be interesting to see if DFI knows of this issue.
Right, the juice needed for over 4400MHz for most E8600's (or most other cpu's actually) becomes too much for a 24/7 setup. I like to stay below 1.400v on the v-core for any long-term runs.
I will get some case photos posted soon, I have seen a bit of interest in the Mini P180, this mATX thing is still a niche market but is gaining popularity with DFI's entry in the P45 segment.

DFI said that they weren't aware of the 4x issue with the GTX280 but they were aware of it with 7950, so they said that they think it's an EIST/C1E issue and to try enabling/disabling for now and they will test with a 280 later today and see what they can come up with. I've sent them your system specs in case there's something else that stands out.

Well, that's positive news, thanks for checking into that! And looking forward to hearing what they find out.
I have both disabled right now but I could try enabling them to see if that helps. It is a random thing, if I were to re-boot the computer, say 10 times in a row, it could be at 4x or 8x any one of those times. When it does come up at 4x when I first fire it up, I sometimes have to re-boot it several times to get it to 8x, sometimes just once will do. I have been making a game out of it when I first boot the system for the day, called "Do I feel lucky"

Sounds fun.

But yes, if you could try the settings in a different config to you are using now and let me know here, I'll let them know.

Retro,

Got some news about your problem. They have tested with a GTX280 and can't find any immediate problems, but they said a few things you can try.

The number one issue is that the PSU isn't providing the correct amount of voltage to the card at power on - I think I might have already mentioned this, but I had several Enermax Galaxy's that did that.

Also, remove the card, clear the CMOS then put it back and try again.

Failing that, try connecting one of the small power connectors near the PCI-E slots, the ones that look like floppy connectors (this could be related to the first point).
