I'm at a loss to explain it, I'm on the same BIOS. Any X48 should be able to run stable at 500 FSB / PL7 with <1.6 vNB. Have you thrashed your board with very high vNB or something or has it always been like this?

I've never been able to get PL7 working on my X48 boards, maybe it's just too darn hot in here. My UT P35 can do it though.
What is the ambient temp there? I don't think I have see the chipset temp hit 45*C loaded yet, but I do have an 80mm fan leaning on the edge of it on it and the ram sticks. The cooling on this board is phenomenal for a stock setup.
