I'm thinking of getting one of these 2nd hand. Do the problems with the heat send me to get an IP35 Pro? I gathered that the QuadGT had little or no Vdroop, which is why I am tempted by one (with the latest 16 bios I thnk)

Hi Wam, welcome to the forums.
It was a decent board, I'm not sure that vdroop was any better or worse on it than the P35 Pro. Vdroop is built in by Intel so around 0.03 ~0.04v is pretty consistently normal.

Seriously, don't, it was horrible when there were people allegedly working on the BIOS, I just dread to think how it is now with newer hardware. Do yourself a favour and get something else that works properly!

Edit: Hows that for two conflicting opinions?

Hey thanks for the welcome and the conflicting replies.

To give you some context, I have an Abit Ip35 but it suffers from the cold boot bug so ideally want to replace it to save me having to warm the motherboard up so that it boots.
With a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz I am getting a VDroop of ~ 0.9! Which is why while replacing it I wouldn't mind something with a little less VDroop.

Also I need something with 2 PCI slots and would also like 2 PCIEx as may want to pop a cheap GPU to use for Phyx.

Don't have too much to spend but if not the QuadGT what would you recommend?

I've not long come off the phone to Abit tech support in Holland and the gentleman was also saying not to get the QuadGT due to the hot PWM. He did say the IP35 Pro would be better, though the IP35 Pro XE is better still, more stable.

To be honest, I'd forget about Abit completely. The IP35 was a decent board, but there's no future BIOS support, so it's a lost cause in my opinion.

So sticking with X48, what about DFI? They do a couple of damn fine X48 boards that you should be able to pick up reasonably cheap. There's the LT/UT X48 T2R which works great with a Q6600, and also the DK X48 T2RSB+ which is another great board with plenty of features.

Not sure about PCIEx, from memory, I think there were just the Asus WS boards with that? I may be wrong though.

I'll carry on the conflicting advise
Have a look at the Gigabyte P35 or P45 Boards
Both P45 & P35 have a wide range of models which you pick to suite your budget.

The P45 boards in particular have a very detailed Bios

Some nice conflicting sutff there but hey, why change habits

Yeah been looking at the P45 boards as I think they will definitely allow me to add a 2nd card for Physx but man give a short list... so much more stuff and reviews to read.

Many thanks for the pointers. Been offered a QuadGT for £35 inc and I'm tempted...
