That's right I am reporting loaded temps using Coretemp and Prime95's small FFT's.
I find that when I run a Blend my CPU temps are a lot lower too.

Well last night I tried to get 8x450 but struggled and then couldn't even get 9x400 stable with Blend.

In the end I lost my RAID array from having to clear my CMOS and seeing as I use this machine for business the whole affair has frustrated me

Later today I shall try again but soon I am going to have to make a decision and stick to it LOL.
I need a stable and reliable set up on which to work.

Can I please ask again about memory timings?.....
If I stick to a mild overclock of simply 333FSB X 9 and a 1:1.2 strap (RAM=800MHz) then would I be better off running PC6400 RAM @ 4-4-4-12 than PC8500 RAM @ 5-5-5-15 ?
It seems that PC6400 is readily available with better timings than PC8500.

Also another option would be to run at something like 365FSB X 9 and a 1:1.2 strap (RAM=876MHz). Would the RAM in this instance perform better than PC6400 with 4-4-4-12 timings?

I only have PC8500 at the moment you see. I could always go and purchase some PC6400.

I ran at only 400FSB with a VCore of 1.45V I had temps of 73,66,66,72.
on air under load with a Zalman CNPS9700-LED Super Aero Flower Cooler is probably spot on.

I got

with vc 1.4125v at 9x400 with a thermalright ultima90. my run was barebones though.

The temps vwgolfman, are just a bit higher than what i'd be happy at as max peaks, I would be fairly comfortable with the ones i got, assuming they were from a run in the case

luck

Hi again.

Thanks for all your help and replies.

I am busy working at present but just popped onto the forum to ask if I could have a response to my queries regarding the timings of PC6400 compared to PC8500.

If I stick at 800MHz then would PC6400 (4-4-4-12) perform much better than PC8500 (5-5-5-15)?

What if I clock my PC8500 up to 833MHz (5-5-5-15).
How would they compare then?

I have to go and help an elderly chap with his computer straight after work but when I return late tonight I hope to get back to trying a few things on my own machine.

It's abugger when things stop you enjoying yourself

with 8500 you should be ok upto about a 1000 on 4,4,4,12 with the same standard voltage. I usually run miner in 2 modes:-

800~1000 4,4,4,12 & 1067 ~ 1200 5,5,5,10
both with sock voltage if running 900 or less you might reduce vdimm.

luck
