Cheers Mate
Mine seems to peak at 4.2 stable under air - don't want to put too much voltage through it without water , so it might go a bit higher yet
What voltage have you got your dominator at ?

4.2 stable under air , thats a good overclock well done
my qx9650 seems to want a lot of vcore
i also seem to get a lot of v drop from idle to load.
anyway my ram is running at 2.1v

I had to put 1.4625v through mine to get 4.2Ghz stable .
I'd noticed the amount of v.droop I get from the board as well ( anything up to nearly 0.3v ) - I thought it was my PSU , but must be the board ..........

CPUZ validator for 4207.85Ghz @1.440v ( 1.4625v in bios )

I tried the magic 500x8.5 ( 4250 Ghz ) , but it wasn't having any of it , and rebooted within less than a minute - I'll try again with the 8x multiplier when I get round to it

0.3v is normal & is actually engineered in by Intel.
Best explanation is probably this Intel Processor Power Delivery Guidelines Most bios have a way of circumventing it, called by various names Load line calibration(LLC) (gigabyte) vcore Droop (loadline) DFI, summat else Asus. At the end of the day the key factor is what is your actual voltage is. IE on load per CPU-Z or via multimeter reading.

As you can see from the Anandtech diagram, vdroop is actually the difference between Idle to Load Vcore.

multimeter idle 1.428
cpuz full 1.376 (prime95 64bit)
multimeter full 1.404 (prime95 64bit)

Well it's not just CPU-Z but all software based monitoring. Their handicapped by the fact that the voltage is read via an 8bit register so voltage accuracy is severely limited. Other than use a multimeter as you did to highlight the issue, we're lumbered with it

Seem to have sorted the temperature prob out by sticking an 80mm fan to blow air between the 2 4870's and the motherboard temp has now dropped to 43c
