Try dropping your ram down to 2.00 ie 1000mhz and retest.
that might ber the cause try it on 9 the same as channel b.

My sticks won't do that.
For some reason systems won't boot with anything too far off the JDEC or EPP settings. And they skip from 800mhz to 1200mhz.

I've never made it to
post with any of my attempts at 1066mhz.
I did try making the settings extremely loose, but it had no effect. Prime would always fail in less than a minute.
Then I dicovered this thread....
** Official ** Gigabyte UD3 P45 Series -- EP45-UD3 / EP45-UD3R / EP45-UD3P - Page 4 - XtremeSystems Forums
The first
post on this page from Zodden states that he discovered stability after lowering
MCH Reference voltage to below default. I gave it a try and BOOM, the temple doors opened.
Prime would run for hours, temps were low, life was good.
I could even bring my memory back to it's super tight timings and the system would pass all of the stress tests, but for some reason it was freezing whenever I tried 3D benchmarks. So I loosened the timings a little bit and that problem went away as well.
So, with the new information, I pretty much had to start from the beginning. Meaning I had to figure out the best clock frequency I could achieve, lowest voltages, etc.
It turns out that the auto-scaling procedure you described that served me so well on the last
CPU doesn't appear to be relevent to the E8600. Finding the right values was just a long ordeal of trial and error.
And tolerances were extremely tight. In most cases my rig won't even boot if I go one notch either way from the numbers I have for the termination and reference voltages.
Vcore is a little more forgiving.
I tried to register at XtrememSystems to profusely thank Zodden, but people are reporting that they aren't sending out reg emails right now.
The proof...
The Benches

You guys were right. My old
CPU *was* limiting my bandwidth.
The one
odd thing is the idle temps...

Hard to tell what they really are, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
And the numbers...

My guess is that I could get better results with a better
Mobo. The DS3R is only rated for a 1600mhz
FSB and I'm running it at 2036mhz now. But I'm not complaining. For what I've spent, I'm damned happy with the outcome.
So thanks again for all the help. I Hope my struggles will help others as well.
