Hi supershanks.

I am new to this forum.
I have a Q6600 and managed maximum fsb of 520 Not stable.
can you give me a hint for GTL refs for this particular Cpu and for QuadCores in general/
thanks in advance.

hi sirbaili,
welcome to the forum With a Q6600 at 520 you should be showing us
Can't really say, as i've not run a quad with this board. There are a number of people whoa have subscribed & I've seen around, who have though. 65nm seem to need a little higher gtlref than 45nm. My old Q6600 on other boards needed about 68 & 67% which would equate to CPUtef 1 0.871 & 2 0.884 at 1.30v cpu termination. The values do vary by CPU and it does depend on your cooling. but it might be a starting point.

Red face Q6600 Ep45-DQ6

HI there.

O.K. I am uploading pics of FSB 520 Q6600.

for th time being pics of 520 FSB:

google pict5ures

and I have a CPU-Z Validation of only 510 from today.

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=450524

By the way: Cpu term 1.44 with cpu ref1 and ref2 0.760 & 0.800 worked just fine for fsb 520 - I had to relax ram timings to 5-7-7-20 ant trfc 88 though.

Nice day folks. http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif

That's great thank's for sharing
Look forward rto seeing it stable when you've tweaked your GTLref a bit more :0

Hi there.

I have another one just abit more FSB=517 Cpu-z Validated:

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=450650

And Here is A pic:

About a Stability - NO way to make it stable on air cooling only(True Xtreem).

But I Can run This Baby 3.915MGhz Stable running prime95 and 3Dmark 06 at the same time.

And I have an impression that EP45-Dq6 doesn't like high MCH unlike x38 chipset(I had a maximus extreme that required 1.74 NB to get to 500 fsb only.

That's all for today.

By guys.

It's agood while since I played with a Q6600, about the best results i had was -
760 8x470 1:1.20 24Hrs Prime Stable Got it up to to 3.8, thogh not stable. So your stable 3.915MGhz is pretty damn fine

Your right about the

it actually varies by strap. the B strap needs only about 1.32~1.34v doesn't run with much higher. The other main strap I use the D will play with a bit higher voltage. In any event , comparing it to the X38 & X48 Dq6 boards and DFI boards i've had the MCH is very low by comparison. Seems ironic when it's probably the most elaborately cooled

that might ber the cause try it on 9 the same as channel b.
My sticks won't do that.

For some reason systems won't boot with anything too far off the JDEC or EPP settings. And they skip from 800mhz to 1200mhz.

I've never made it to post with any of my attempts at 1066mhz.

I did try making the settings extremely loose, but it had no effect. Prime would always fail in less than a minute.

Then I dicovered this thread....

** Official ** Gigabyte UD3 P45 Series -- EP45-UD3 / EP45-UD3R / EP45-UD3P - Page 4 - XtremeSystems Forums

The first post on this page from Zodden states that he discovered stability after lowering MCH Reference voltage to below default. I gave it a try and BOOM, the temple doors opened.

Prime would run for hours, temps were low, life was good.

I could even bring my memory back to it's super tight timings and the system would pass all of the stress tests, but for some reason it was freezing whenever I tried 3D benchmarks. So I loosened the timings a little bit and that problem went away as well.

So, with the new information, I pretty much had to start from the beginning. Meaning I had to figure out the best clock frequency I could achieve, lowest voltages, etc.

It turns out that the auto-scaling procedure you described that served me so well on the last CPU doesn't appear to be relevent to the E8600. Finding the right values was just a long ordeal of trial and error.

And tolerances were extremely tight. In most cases my rig won't even boot if I go one notch either way from the numbers I have for the termination and reference voltages. Vcore is a little more forgiving.

I tried to register at XtrememSystems to profusely thank Zodden, but people are reporting that they aren't sending out reg emails right now.

The proof...

The Benches

You guys were right. My old CPU *was* limiting my bandwidth.

The one odd thing is the idle temps...

Hard to tell what they really are, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

And the numbers...

My guess is that I could get better results with a better Mobo. The DS3R is only rated for a 1600mhz FSB and I'm running it at 2036mhz now. But I'm not complaining. For what I've spent, I'm damned happy with the outcome.

So thanks again for all the help. I Hope my struggles will help others as well.

Nice one mate and thanks for the great post.

Eva and myself bot noticed the MCH voltages in our plays with the board I've mentioned it several times , including post just before your last one Eva talks about it here Eva2k post#98
Though we were thinking 1.32~1.34v not Zodden
