If I remember right, that's for when there was a bit of a problem with Wolfdale temps being reported much higher than they were, so you could use that to calibrate so that your software read things correctly....don't quote me on that, but that's what the catacombs of my mind are saying.

Not sure about the fans, although if you want them running full whack, why not just connect them direct to the PSU loom?

I thought it might have something to do with that as my E8500 does appear to be reading high. Bit like setting the TJMax to 95 in realtemp? I'll whap a -5 in there.

It's only really the cpu cooler fan and I like to keep on the motherboard connector as I've the fan fail warning enabled, I have had a cpu cooler fan fail in the past. It's not really a big deal, just the way I'm used to doing it.

And as you said, the board has its little quirks.

It's to let you calibrate the reported CPU temp.

Even if the CPU fan failed completely, it will just shut down when it gets to whatever temp your CPU allows...105c might be the one for that. I've done it many a time when I've been changing coolers over. Depending on how much extra voltage/overclock you have, it will only run for a couple of minutes usually before it shuts itself off. No harm done.

If you have installed the Smart Guardian application, that will take over the fan speed once it loads. You can also use it to manually force the CPU fan to full throttle.

If anyone's still following this, there's a new beta bios as of december. Improves compatibility with some Pentium D processors

Doesn't seem to have made a difference in clocking or 'owt.

Hello all,

ive recently purchased this board (well the lt model), and after long hours of themaltake northbridge cooler fitting, i got the computer running fine.ive just got a couple of question to Clunk ( who seems to be doing a great job, and doing on of the best reviews and coverage of this board).

now the problem i have is that whatever i try i cant change cpu vid special ad in the genie menu, well actualy i can change it but once the system reboots it always sets it to auto. ive tried overclocked, non overclocked nothing in the wolrd would change that setting to anything but auto.

the other is the confusing part of gtlref which i think i get, but since its my first dfi board ill ask. before ive always set it to 67% for the cpu and nb.
when i got all running i saw the default options in the genie menu were 3 of them were around 110, which i thought was the percentage to right away i dropped 3 of them at 70, and after reading here i understood that in dfi its different and those values are not %.
anyways i have my system running most of the time overclocked at 3.6ghz (see specs below) and dont have any issues for now, even at 4ghz the low gtl ref seems to be doing the job just fine. my question is: is there any damage that cant be done in running a lower gtlref than 67%? can i drop it even more?

My system consists of:

Dfi X48 lt t3rs @ 400fsb
qx6850 @ 3600mhz
2x2gb 1600mhz corsair xms3 @ 1.65 @ 8-8-8-24
watercooled cpu and zalman heatsink on nb
bfg 9800gtx+ oc

and since i cant post screenshots of my voltage setting here they are:

cpu vid 1.325 ( for some reason it shows 1.37)
nb 1.25
dram 1.658
gtl ref
cpu 0/1 70
cpu 2/3 70
nb 65

ive read much and maybe my answers are somewhere within these pages, but i couldnt find them.
thank you for your replies
