It's the OCZ 1600 4Gb kit that I had, though I couldn't be sure whether it was problems with the memory, hardware issues with the Asus board or simply
BIOS issues that were causing the problems...
The OCZ kits are what I'm hoping will work, as they're (relatively!) cheap, particularly compared to the corsair kits.
Will the board boot with a single stick from any of the 4Gb kits if it's having issues with 2 x 2Gb?
It's not good to hear about the issues you're having Clunk, though they do sound like relatively simple to fix
BIOS problems, rather than genuine hardware problems, which is good to know.
Whatever motherboard I get, it'll be paired with a 4Gb kit of memory that works, along with a QX9650, and a 9800GTX, though that will hopefully be swapped out for a GTX 280 when they come out, through EVGA's rather expensive step up procedure. It's a bit disheartening to see the CPU, GPU, and the other bits sitting in an empty case, waiting to jump to life when I get a mobo and memory again!
Keep up the good work Clunk
