.i am trying to hold out on a retail E8400 which should be in stock by next week.
|
 I was tempted I saw some stock today. Think I'll put my Q6600 back in & give that a whirl again before I decide. Not that keen on shelling out a shedload on a yorktown Yorkfield
9550 = 307.29 ex tax x 1.967$/£ = $604
9450 = 215.94 ex tax x 1.967$/£ = $425
I've a snreeky feeling that you won't get much more than 470fsb which is what my q6600 can run at 24/7.
Might either stick or get an 8400/8500 wolfdale to take me through to Nehlam. the ability to have a high FSB & a variety of dividers with DDR3 may yet prove the most attractive option.

the 9450 looks to be an attractive buy...BUT...since i know how the Quads respond, i rather try a dual core.

Yep that's what I was thinking Better clocks & less $.
Bugger it have ordered one Intel® Core 2 Duo E8400 boxed Q807A269 Their in that short supply atm if it's naff I can flog it on without much of a loss.

it looks as if the copy speed dropped below 10K...

Sorry talking about my Q6600 8x470 was my 24/7 clock on the Abit X38 QuadGT My point was that I cant see the Yorkies doing much more than what ?? 485 , sure a bit faster code more cache etc., but alnost 2x the $ ?? Doesn't seem too clever.
Though getting some decent benches at tighter timings & lower Mhz, it feels restrictive running lower FSB using dividers unchanged from DDR2. Perhaps p45 or nehalem will sort this out AS you said 2 core may be the CPU of choice with ddr3 at this stage.

Yep it does, hadn't noticed that , not too sure why at this stage,

it was the 'yankee' in me to spoof you on the 7X multi...hehehe...i gathered that it was the 8X multi.

what is amazing with you getting over 10K is the fact that you were using PL=9...NOW...it might have been a detection problem with memset like CpuZ having a problem of detecting actual memory speed.

true. what's also odd is the auto performance settings. I ususlly setr off with trd on auto with performance unchanged at turbo. That's where the 9 came from. However on the 1200+ 5,5,5,12 & 1600 6,6,6,12 I found I was able to drop TRD a point from the Turbo / Auto setting. This means that I could leave TRD on Auto & probably run with Performance Enhance on Extreme.
I'll revisit the earlier 9 setting. It's also linked with the FSB I was at 520 for that on 480 on the last. TRD Increases with FSB 400=7 333= 6 for example.
Memset is great for testing the TRD. It's a bit like testing for mines with your foot you note the value that's there & see if you can drop it a notch. It either lets you or the rig freazzes
