Hostility try JZ they usually have the latest Gigabyte bios. I've had a similar thing here DFI UT P45-T3RS Living Review running 4gb v 2gb , ram is capable but not with a full population . ie your 8gb.

If your upping your ram speed using 4d with 7-7-7 it's still likely that tRD will need to go up rther than down.

you seem to have a decent cpu & are running well with 8gb.

The other thing that bothers me is I have seen others with Q9650's run at 4-4.2ghz with under 1.3V Vcore, y
 therre's always siomething that looks better, usually you do a bit of digging and find it's not so good

Checked JZ, only had F6a, *shrug*. I'll give it a go later with 4.00D and 7-7-7, and probably 10 tRD. Thanks for response

So now, hum... I am hesitating about what to do. Resell my memory in order to change it with one more compatible with my motherboard (or one which doesn't work at high frequency but with better timing), or change de motherboard with one more 'quad' compatible...

héhé , that is the question

@hostility
Your ddr3 looks not so bad.
Yep it's a bummer. In your place it's really a question of cost analysis ?
1) New notherbord
2) New ram
3) Ocing Q9550
Hostility & others have shown a quad can run oretty well on this board .
That said there may be better more Quad friendky bosrds out there I've not tested it with a yorkdale cos i don't have one but the DFI UT P45-T3RS should be pretty good , especially noteworthy isd it has seperate gtlref channels for eacjh core not just each pair of cores.

Looking at component costs ddr3 & CPUs (given intels's latest price cuts) are coming down motherboards are static. I think I'd maybe look around at another ddr3 kit, document your overclock & ram stability on the wolfdale & sell it ? Might be the least cost option ??

I was _VERY_ close to buying the DFI board when I decided on this one. Looks really solid.

edit: I was thinking of the older DFI board :P, however this one looks awesome too!

Computers make me crazy !

Just after trying dram frequency at 900Mhz with an e8500 (8-8-8-27 62), I changed back to my q9550, I turned on my computer and it has booted without problem

I ran memtest, I just had 8 errors at the test 5. I changed my timings to 8-9-8-27 62, tryed memtest with success . Afterwhile I even overclok my q9550 at 3.8Ghz, but after 10 minutes it was freezing. So I return to 3.6Ghz (8*450).

I will try again if my computer is stable at 3.6Ghz with my ddr3 at 1800Mzh. I'll give some screen tomorow (I am now under linux, and tonight it's enough).

Any way, thank's for your help

Edit/Delete Message
The later Gigabyte boards , the P45 extreme etc., have much more comprehensive bios that this board., so the gap between DFI & layer gigabute boards is pretty close, both firms make some of the best motherboards around.

isn't that the way. Most likely a bios parameter or 2 that are different to what you had ? or maybe with changing CPUs around DMI has got rebuilt and is now running netter.
Don't knock it , it might save you money

Hi Supershank!

I also didn't find the F6b on the web, but I received a link on a private message here...

It seems I am closer to a stable overclock now...
I decided to try increasing the FSB although I am not able to find a stable setting for 480MHz.

I still have some problem (see below).. This is my last conf:

Code:
GIGABYTE GA X48T DQ6 Clock Settings

MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT)
Robust Graphics Booster...........:Turbo
CPU Clock Ratio...................:8
CPU Frequency.....................:3.60GHz(450x8)
CPU Host Clock Control............:Enabled

DRAM Timing Selectable ...........:Manual
Standard Timing Control
CAS Latency Time (tCL)............:7
DRAM RAS# to CAS# (tRCD).........:7
DRAM RAS# Precharge (tRP).........:7
Precharge Delay (tRAS)............:24
Advanced Timing Control
ACT to ACT Delay(tRRD)............:[4] Auto
Rank Write to READ Delay (tWTR)...:[5] Auto
Write To Precharge Delay (tWR)....:[10] Auto

No-Execute Memory Protect.........: Enabled
CPU Enhanced Halt(CIE)............: Enabled
CPU Thermal Monitor 2.............: Enabled
CPU EIST Function.................: Enabled
Virtualization Technology........: Disabled
Although memory is underclocked, benchmarks give me almost 5-10% higher memory speeds
(in comparison to 425FSB and memory at 1700MHz).

Linpack ran for 15 iterations without giving me errors.
I played Crysis for 1 hour without crashes (Crysis crashes fastly when I misconfigure my overclock).
Then, I ran prime95 (Blend test) overnight, and when I woke up I found a BSOD ("IRQL not less or equal"). :-(

While I am writing, I am running Prime95 again with the following changes
Code:
FSB OverVoltage... 65nm = 1.25v..+: +0.10 (instead of 0.05)
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control,(1.25v): +0.15 (instead of 0.10)
Do you see some other bad choices in my settings?
Would you change something else?

Thanks again,
Wally

i send e-mail to the gigabyte service the gtls are 64%-67% not 67%61%
also try
CPU GTLREF1 Voltage*.......(64%)..: NORMAL
CPU GTLREF2 Voltage*.......(67%)..: -3

fsb volts you can play at +0.20 max safe for 24/7
mch volts is the more critical for stability for me +0.250 worked fine(1.36v real measured)
see here about REAL and the FAKE volts: Gigabyte X48T DQ6 Living Review
Static tREAD Value (tRD)..........:[7] is a bit tight for o/c try 8-9

CPU Clock Skew Control............: Normal try from 50 to 200
(G)MCH Clock Skew Control.........: Normal try form 50 to 250
for me 100ps for both worked fine!

Performance Enhance...............:standar

Gave the F6b bios a whirl, no luck with 4.00D/B multiplier (would post, but windows wouldn't load). However, I was able to tweak my timings down to 6-6-5-15 with a 7 tRD (!) and be stable still. I'll try with a little more skew tomorrow on 4.00 multiplier.

Think they know that, the original figures where best estimate in the absence of other data which have been quoted around the forums. That's the biggest weakness of the Overclock type of bios used here. It's fine , but you need to know the base. Thankfully Gigabyte have now ditched it on subsequent boards.

@hostility good stuff
