is it maybe because of th ram? or is it just the cpu has hit the roof? or something unknown
It's a bit hard to tell at this stage, while we can help you in the forum , it's not quiet the same as working with your component. I think your ram is ok. Your CPU does seem to be running hotter than average , seems to be the main problem. have you applied the paste the right way. As per the Quad shown here in the right direction, the opposite way to dual core .

but would adding abit more than usual raise the temperature to those heights? because beforehand i remember i had to raise to 3.5 vcore with previous fan to have it at 3.4 ghz

It could do

3.5 vcore
1.50I assume you mean ? is high. We've all had times when air cooling when the temps seem higher than expected. It's frustrating , due to the work involved in removing the cooler, cleaning & re-applying paste, but it's worth checking.

Default Struggling in finding the right settings

Hi all!

First I want to congratulate you: this is the more complete and detailed thread on the X48T-DQ6 on the net.
I would like to submit you my problem, I hope you could help me.
I am not an extreme overclocker, I just wanted to find a stable and optimal setting for my mobo/memory/processor and use the full potentiality of my hardware.
I just have a basic cooling, so I am not trying to reach extreme frequencies (specs are on my profile).
My first idea was to increase the FSB to 400 in order to reach 1600MHz at my RAM with a multiplier of 4.
Then, if possible, I would have further increased step by step the FSB until the last stable frequency.
I changed my memory settings as suggested by the OCZ specs/forums and lower the CPU clock ratio of 0.5.

All the settings are reported below at the end of the post.
I ran prime95 for a whole night without any error.
Memtest also passes some hours without errors.

Although stability tests seem to indicate that my system is stable i get the following two issues:
1 - Sometimes, without any apparent reason, the pc doesn't post, it cycle for three times, and boot with a fallback FSB value.
2 - I get some instability while playing SOME games (not all), a BSOD or it just blocks and I have to switch it off manually.
I tried 3 bios version (F4, F5, F6a), without solving the issue.

The mobo supports 400MHz FSB, so I thought that overvoltage is not required.
I am seeing that you pushed the FSB to 440MHz without liquid cooling, and 500 with liquid cooling.
So I am struggling to find the right settings in the BIOS.
Can you suggest me something by looking at my specifications?
I would love to reach at least 420MHz.
Actually I never touched the section "Advanced timing control", this could be my problem.

Thank you very much,
Danilo

Hi Danilo,
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting your system specs, much appreciated
Doesn't sound like your far away with an overnight prime run, assuming it was the Blend test ??

Couple of observations:-
Quote:
Performance Enhance...............:Extreme (tried also turbo and standard, doesn't help)
Run at Turbo or standard, extreme is the fastest, but also the most unstable.
I'd also try
Quote:
(G)MCH Clock Skew Control.........: Normal
Increase this a notch, may give little extra to the memory controller.

Quote:
Advanced Bios Features
These are mainly to select CPU options. I generally run with all diabled as they may interfere with an overclock, I generally enable CPU Thermal Monitor as it supposedly gives more accurate temps with wolfdale CPUs.

I would really think about upgrading cpu cooler. something like Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is cheap and gives great results.

Running at 420FSB is all find and dandy but if you stick at System Memory Multiplie of 4, that means your ram will be over clocked to 1680. It's quiet probable your ram is capable of this , but there may be easier options see below.

Assuming you want to maintain ram speed at 1600mhz, best option is probably to try for maybe 7.5x480 using 3.33D memory divider giving 3600mhz cpu and 1600Mhz ram. vcore needs probably to be around 1.35v, but depends a lot on your CPU.
FSB OverVoltage... = + a notch
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control about 2~3 notches above normal.

Yes, it was Blend test... The maximum temperature reached overnight was around 64 degress (Celsius).

Done right now.;-)

(G)MCH OverVoltage Control about 2~3 notches above normal.
I couldn't wait to try... :-)
I got a BSOD in the Windows startup....
Subsequently I tried with 7x480 and it booted but I got a rounding error in 5 seconds in prime.

mhmmm...

Just for writing this post I backed up to 420MHz(x8.5) and writing while prime is running...
Temperatures are around 69 degrees but no error in the first two cycles (1024K and 8K).

Do you think I could push the FSB to 480MHz without particular cooling systems?

Thanks,
Dan

well if your max temp on your prime run was 64C, I'd improve my cooling before going further, when in all likelihood you'll be increasing CPU voltage.
Sounds like you have some good components, I'd just get that cooling

:-) OK... It seems I can't postpone it anymore... I need to buy something for cooling well my hardware...

anyway, last bullet questions:
- Do you have any idea why the bios sometimes reset the FSB value although prime95 and memorytest found the system stable?
- The fact that pc is stable but crashes with some games (BSOD or hang up) indicates some specific misconfiguration?
- Is it normal that in prime95 a core is always faster (and get warmer of ~3 degrees) than the other one?

Thank you very much...
I really appreciated that you helped me with my issues...

ciao,
Danilo
