looks as if the Areca Raid card DOES outperform the Intel Raid chipset...the difference is by 4K points between what giga is doing versus the Areca card on the IP35 PRO board...so...the PCMark05 score is only about 300 points more on the giga X48 board...i might have to yank the areca card out of this system to get the final comparison...means a whole new setup

Hi Ace,
Sorry for not replying earlier I was just packing up my E8500 decided to sell it & use the E8400 Other than the odd 9.5 bench, which is on a lower FSB so gives lower memory speed , particularly Write, not that much advantage over the good E8400 I have.

Your doing a great job analysing the PCMark05.

is really 3/5 of buggerall rto put it technically

sell it...hmmm...i think for now that i will keep my E8500 since i am not in the same predicament as you.

i am running PCMark05 now at cas=6...i am doing the short version and then the full bench which shows all the invidual scores...funny thing that the individual video bench score is about 2000 points more on the giga board than on the Pro board with the 9800 and same driver but still only 300 overall points more.

once i get the Areca card moved over, i will truly know the comparison difference between chipsets and ddr3 versus ddr2 speed.

finally, i through up the last slide showing the X48T ahead by a thousand points!...everything was the same except for chipset and memory...P35 against X48 and DDR2 vs. DDR3...clearly the X48T wins by a wide margin!

thought to throw up my two slides and you can throw up YOUR beautiful chart that highlights the strengths of this board.

for those who view this post, the P35 board (Abit's IP35 Pro...ddr2) was up against Gigabyte's GA-X48T-DQ6 (ddr3)...all the add-in hardware were the same except for board chipset and system memory....P35 versus X48 chipset and DDR2 versus DDR3.

I used this hardware on the two boards:
Vista64 w/SP1
QX9650
9800GTX (same video driver)
Areca 1210 8X PCIe Raid card (has own processor and memory)
Raid 0 w/128K Stripe
2-250gb Seagate-16mb cache (single platters)

ok

Like you said, believe the HD being based on your raid card is gained from the faster ram speed. What slot is it plugged into PCI-E or PCI ?? Is there any gain from PCI-E v2 ??

not necessarily SO!...it really comes from the Areca card having its own processor and having its own onboard memory, bypassing the system memory and system cpu which can be a bottleneck!

NOW, if you are talking about moving your single drive over to the X48, YES, it will be about 5% faster because the memory is faster in performance.

it is a 8X PCIe Raid card.

i am not sure if PCIe 2.0 specs affects its performance...BUT...the card was designed and produced before 2.0 specs showed up.

EDIT:...if you are questioning the 636 point bump in the hard drive category, that is caused by the card being limited to 4x speed due to the P35 chipset limitation.

correct but given that those parameters are the same on both boards, why is the x48 hd performance up ??

Maybe, had forgotten that
