...it really comes from the Areca card having its own processor and having its own onboard memory, bypassing the system memory and system cpu which can be a bottleneck!
NOW, if you are talking about moving your single drive over to the X48, YES, it will be about 5% faster because the memory is faster in performance.

i am not sure if PCIe 2.0 specs affects its performance...BUT...the card was designed and produced before 2.0 specs showed up.
EDIT:...if you are questioning the 636 point bump in the hard drive category, that is caused by the card being limited to 4x speed due to the P35 chipset limitation.
