You sure you need 2.3 vDIMM?

Anyway my guess would be you need more vCore.

VERY ODD UPDATE....

i was going to try your recommendations, as I think they're very valid.

tried reducing vdimm + booting... didnt get to windows
then changed settings back to how it was pretty stable @ 440 fsb
left vdimm alone @ 2.3v and increased vcore by a notch... didnt get to windows
then changed settings back to how it was pretty stable @ 440 fsb
thought this was extremely odd... tried the EXACT SAME settings that gave me decent stability at 440 (i saved it to CMOS) and it wouldnt boot to windows again!!!

i have no idea what's going on. i didnt touch the computer since i left for work, and now it doesnt boot at settings that were relatively stable 9 hours earlier!!!

do you guys something is wrong with my bios? could a messed up windows installation mess up OC results? (i dont think it's messed up though)

ok what i'm going to do now is use a gigabyte x48-dq6 for the penryn and the dfi x48 lt for the wolfdale.

was using a biostar i45 for the wolfdale but i wasnt happy with the voltages being a little too high (this mobo has vcore increments of 0.05v and the vdroop is quite bad).

btw why do some people suggest vdroop to be left activated (read that it stresses the mobo a bit)? considering that vdroop on some boards can be quite large, either you have to really keep your OC modest (or have a miracle chip) or you idle at a higher vcore than you need to...

It's possible that you have a corrupted CMOS, try disconnecting the PSU from the wall and taking the battery out for a few hours.

Regarding vDroop, it exists because it's much less expensive to make a chip that can take about 10% more voltage at idle than it is to make a VRM circuitry that has no vDroop.
More on that here.

Sometimes the X48 boards can suffer from a corrupt CMOS, the best way to fix this is to do a long CMOS clear, remove the battery and unplug from the mains for a while..the longer the better sometimes.

I always leave the vdroop setting to enabled. Try it both ways and see what works best for your system, thats the best way to get your head round these boards, trial and error

Edit: giraffe features beat me to it

okay i'll hard-clear the CMOS later tonight. probably gonna reinstall OS too because I'm gonna use some faster, quieter drives. i hope OCing my e8600 on this dfi x48 will be easier!!!

Just one question, what's the best bios right now to run 8GB of ram (Corsair).

I have the Q9450 oc to 3200Ghz 24/7

Best Regards

I would have thought any of the BIOSes will allow you to run 8GB - Just grab the latest one from the DFI site.

Thanks Clunk, do you know how much volt to add to the North Bridge and memory? What’s safe?

I have these memory: Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB CL5 x 2 = 8GB

Best Regards

Just use whatever the memory is rated for (see the label), any more and you risk killing them. The NB should be fine for up to 1.45v as long as you keep some airflow across it.

Please add your system specs to your profile, see my sig for details.
