Getting close to that time to upgrade my
CPU (& heatsink/fan). Should I go with 8400 or 8500? Is the difference in these just the clock multiplier? I'm not sure how I should go about deciding the
CPU and what are the limitations of each in overclocking.
I see you (supershanks) had some fun with the above CPUs in the X48
Setting the
FSB to 400mhz (1600mhz) would give me an OC of:
8400 - 3 * 1600/1333 = 3.6 ghz
8500 - 3.16 * 1600/1333 = 3.8 ghz
I have some questions on the logic of overclocking...
I know that I'm not limited to round
FSB numbers or what is listed on the motherboard. Does these two CPUs have a different max potential for OC'ing? I mean, ignoring the
RAM, can't you make up the difference in stock speed by increasing the
FSB more? Basically, how would a 8400 limit me compared to 8500?
thanks,
