Yeah that does work. It works on Auto too though which must be using 3.00A, it's the only strap that can give 800MHz for this bus speed.

If I wanted to try an overclock, what would you recommend? Is there something wrong if I'm seeing temps like 43-45C at idle on the cores and low to mid 50's at load with a Thermaltake V1?

yer I know , that's why I suggested it
Most people go for around 3.2~3.4k on a q6600 you might make 3.6k on air but depends how good your cooler is.
If you going for a 1st try then 400x8 = 3200 , you can run 1:1 then
have a look at nilo123's settings aas a start point. hust drop in your fram +0.30v (=2.1v) and the same timings from my post.that you just said works.
Think you can probably do 3.2k with between 1.35 and 1.40v on your cpu.

your idle seems high it's usually 30~35C load doesn't sounfd that bad. See how they are running at 3.2k

can you do me a favour please , and Add Your System Specs To Your Profile! It'll stop me having to go back to your 1st post every time I want to see your components

Even just setting CPU Host Clock Control option from Auto to Manual (keeping the clock speed at 266, exactly what it is on Auto) causes the system to fail at the POST screen and shut off, restoring the old settings. So basically I get a shutdown and restore of the old settings unless that setting is on Auto. Tried both yours and the Auto RAM settings and got the same result.

I put the system specs in my profile, sorry about that.

thanks for doing the specs

So It seems that the automatic timings , particularly the sub timings
Quote:
ACT to ACT Delay(tRRD): 3 Auto try 4
Rank Write to READ Delay: 3 Auto try 4
Write To Precharge Delay: 6 Auto
Refresh to ACT Delay: 52 Auto
Read To Precharge Delay: 3 Auto try 4
Static tRead Value: 5 Auto
On the SPD chip (that gives the mobo the Auto values) are wrong , being much too tight. I think you can Either reprogramme the SPD or contact G.Skill and have them sort it out, or I guess return them to the store as incompatible.
It's the equivalent of this process you need OCZ release SPD-Z: lets users reprogram SPD chips

I don't get it though - the RAM settings didn't change at all, merely enabling the CPU frequency adjustment (but without even actually changing it) causes the reboots on the POST screen. What's changing between having that setting on Auto (which is setting 266 FSB) and Manual also set to 266?

Hi Super,

After some patience and downgrading work on CPU vcore, I found the CPU vcore value that makes my system more stable.

Setting it lower than 1.40v (sorry, I don' remember now which value was), I can run small FFTs for an hour without warnings or errors in P95, but in 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage, I get lower scores and also 3DMark Vantage starts to show corrupted graphics. This does not happen with a 1.40v CPU vcore. Thus, I think it is because of lowering CPU vcor than this value.

Regarding my CPU OCing, I think I'll stay by here, although if u have any further advices, they are always welcome.

Thanks once again!!!! (never is too much to thank you)!!!!

Here is a pic of P95 blend test as well as some pics of Coretemp and CPU-Z when my system is at idle:

Cheers,
nilo123

you started off at 1.40v
If your at 48C idle what are the load temps? that was the purpose odf seeing if it was strable at lower voltage. running small ffts. 48C Idle is about 14C higher than the average.

Super,

Yeah I get the shutdown and reboot on the POST screen whenever the CPU Host Clock Control setting is on Manual - with it on Auto the system boots fine. Tried a bunch of different memory settings, same result.
