hi,

I'm having strange 'lockups' with my DQ6 and Q6600 @ 3.06Ghz ( screens on page 45 )

It just hangs for a second or so, the total system.. I suspect this is a motherboard/cpu problem. Anybody got any advice or know what i'm talking about? What are the chances i've got a faulty motherboard?

Thanks

It might be a number of things , a stutter like that may even be your hard drive, try defragging it. Other things to try :-
1) up Vcore (CPU voltage a notch)
2) Try memory at 2.40 = 816mhz
3) Try memory at 2.66 = 904mhz this strapo seems a lot more stable rthan others as well as being faster , perfect combo

Test stability with Prime whatever options you try.

luck

hey guys, i need some advice and suggestions on which ram to get. one of my stix choked last night so i'm down to 1GB stick and i can't rma one, i have to send both together since they came in a kit. so i decided to just buy new ram while i rma the old one.

what has been more consistent with this board? 6400 or 8500?

here are few i was looking at.
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

any other suggestions or advice is welcomed.

thanks in advance.

Hi lokeey,

The cheaper option is the 8500 tracer at that $50 you could get 2 sets which would save $45 over the G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

Think on balance looking at that I'd go for the 2x Tracer. Gives the best of both worlds, 8500 + 4gb.

luck

Oh sorry m8 was following the footy
Yep that makes more sense that's pretty much in line with G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066.

See your dilemma. I'd personally go for 8500, it gives more ocing options and is decent value for money.
Another alternative , why not get another set of the Crucial Ballistix Lanfest 2K7 2x1GB DDR2 800 ??, use them while the rma is on then when you have the new set go 4x1gb

If you purchased direct from crucial they do a exchange which means the new set arrives & you only return your old set when it arrives. They bill you for the replacement set , then credit you when the get the return.

luck

thanks for the feedback s'shanks!

that's what i wanted to do, but these were one of those special edition deals so they don't offer them anymore. i tried doing this after i built my rig, i realized 4GB would have been better. but by then it was already too late and they were discontinued.

i also wanted to do 2 4GB kits...and was looking at the better deal, 4x1GB 6400 or 2x2GB 8500. see the thing is i'm not paying for them. i built a pc for my friend, and the trade off was $100. but i told him instead of paying me to get me a copy of vista 64 ultimate $179. then the unforeseen occurred yesterday and i decided, for a l'il less, i'll get the ram and wait on vista 64 for another time. i just wasn't sure if i should stick with 6400 or go 8500 which was my original plan when i spec'd out my system.

the one thing that peaked my interest about the G.Skill was the m/b chipset support.
M/B Chipset
intel X38
intel P35
intel 965
intel 975

or see it as much of an advantage , A few memory companies have tried to make a virtue of saying it's designed such a & such , the crucial will run just as well. DDR2 is great value just now so fill your boots
The only thing to remember is that 8500 runs hot & your memory will last a lot longer with active cooling. I use the Corsair Dominator Ram cooler , you'll need x2 if running 4x1gb.

luck

Hi i have a problem with my new system. Ever since i upgraded my video card my system seems slow. I now have E8400 @3.6Ghz, X38 DQ6 ,2x1gb Corsair XMS 800mhz, corsair HX620 PSU, etc.

When i got my 8800GT the system in windows and in games seems unusually slow. Ususally with an overclock you get a very snappy system but it feels slow. I changed video card to 3870 and its the same thing. When i run Everest cache and memeory benchmark the "L2" cache is much higher than it was before the graphics upgrade. Before it was 3.8-4.0 ish now i get 5.0-6.0 ish. The other figures are about the same.

Whats going on? It feels like an old P4...very strange. 3Dmark results are good and normal, but overall system latency is very slow and unresponsive.

Do i need to upgrade to a higher performance RAM? Maybe 1066 Mhz or something? Is the power supply not good?

The parts i have were snappy and fast until i put in a 8800GT or 3870 card and now everything seems sluggish.

Any ideas?

No it's strange. Couple of things come to mind that may help:-
1) how olde is your os install ?? it gets clogged up over time, a clean install might freshen things up.
2) if you don't fancy 1) try clearing the prefetch folder {Run} prefetch , select all & delete them. YThis folder helps speed windows up, but again gets clogged up.
3) As ever drivers make a big difference
4) What setting have you got Robust Graphics Booster & pci-e frequency at ??

luck
