How's my very favourite Super Moderator doing up here ??

Whaddya reckon to this - Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 by all accounts is no different from the GA-X38-DQ6 apart from DES technology and presumed pending newer BIOS releases (both a plus). But the initial price difference between the two is going to be between £20 - £30 (ish).

Is it really worth waiting for X48-DQ6 price to drop down to existing X38-DQ6 price or shall I just pick a remaining X38-DQ6 up quick sharp?

I can't be bothered thinking about it anymore. You make up my mind. TY.

Depends how hard up for 20-30 quid you are I suppose?

If the new technology does what it says, and you are up for lower voltage overclockage, then yes, it looks to be a great idea.

But, saying that, we haven't had any X48 boards yet, so it would all be speculation on my part

difference is around £50
Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6
Gigabyte S775 Intel X48
It's whatever rocks your boat. It's somewhat acedemic , as it's hard finding stock of either, you've hesitated this long , may as well go for a bit longer for your P45

luck

Ahhh, this is it though. I've found X38-DQ6 for around £160 ish. I'm caught in two minds.

Default X38-DQ6

I will be placing a new C0 stepping E8400 Wolfdale in my X38-DQ6 some time next week. I will let you all know how this works. Supershanks you have been with gigabyte products for a long time. I remember you from several years ago when I bought my first gigabyte board.
Glad to see your still giving good advice.

Well £160 is pretty dear , about the the same £ as i paid when I got mine last year, I saw it about £145ish dec/jan, which was perticularly good value. I'd be inclined to hang on & go for the X48., but then i'm a hardware slut

From what i've seen the DES technology doesn't coexist with overclocking it's 1 or the other. What you "should" get is a higher quality chip to give better ocing. The bios 7 & 8 seem to gave bring a good maturity to the X38. Hopefully that will give a pretty firm base for the x48 as well, can't guarantee that though

It must have been in another forum. I have subscribed to many over the years. However Supershanks and your avatar are easy to remember. I believe it was an AMD forum back then.
