Default Problem with ZALMAN 9700 NT

Anyone have problem with ZALMAN 9700 NT CPU Fan?

Mine won't start when is connect to 4-pin cpu fan port on MB(just the LED turn on for few second when I turn on the pc). though, it works fine on other 3 pin ports like North bridge fan or PWR fan.

any idea whats wrong with it?

I have the same fan and noticed a delay at first, too. The LED came on, but the fan would not move. Then I noticed that the fan was rubbing up against the copper blades preventing the fan from rotating. So what I did was angle the fan out some. You will need to use a bit of force to bend it out, or to the left/right so that it's not rubbing against the copper. Try that and see if it works. I know you said it's working on the other connectors, but make sure you have seated properly in the 4 pin connector because that was also one of my mistakes as well.

That's a pretty good solution re the zalman back plate.
Those temps are good as well.

One big advantage of the CPU backplate, especially the thermalright one is that it prevent the motherboard bowing keeping things straight. I'm water cooling but use the Thermalright back plate, which is identical to the Ultra extreme for that very reason.

luck

Good thinking!
I already had the intention of doing it in a similar way when I start my new build.
The back plate brackets of these large heat sinks ad little or none to the stress release in the mobo printplate.
What really will help is if you compensate the weigh of the cooling fins and heatpipes by a very thin cable+spring connected one end at the last cooling fin and the other end somewhere high in the computer-case.(Cable not thicker than 0.4 mm of course)

Does the center part of the backplate make direct contact with the mobo or is there some compressible insulation material between the two?

Hehe,...I hadn't seen your post, no offense.

Default Installed Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and Thermalright V2

Morning Supershanks and Clunkers

Well I’ve installed my Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme CPU and Thermalright V2 GPU Heat Sinks.
Very pleased with the results on the V2, dropped my GPU temp under load by 10°C !
(I took some pictures of the installation process if anyone is interested I can post them in the User Reviews Section).

Still running stock speeds, I've taken a capture of my temps and other relevant info after running prime95 etc for an hour.
(Ignore the CPU Core Temps in SpeedFan they are wonky for some reason).
What do people think ? Acceptable ?

Using Arctic Silver 5, so temps should drop a little more once the goop settles in.

FYI Room Temp was 27°C

Also, using the temp sensors that came with my fan controller, I checked my NB and RAM temps while running prime and they were between 52 and 55°C.
Does this seem reasonable ?
Are the NB and RAM temps going to become an issue when I start to o/c this beggar ?

Thanks Guys

Cosmic

by any chance, does anyone know of a good north bridge fan to go with the cooler on this board?

Hi cosmic the ram temps are a bit high , especially on idle ??
are you using active cooling on the memory.??

Prime looks like it;'s stopped so assume the coretemp pics are at idle ??
44~47C is a bit high, what fan are you using. I'd maybe recheck mounting & amount of pate used . Would expect probably around 35C idle. As you say

is right but that's probably in the region of 5C.

interesting...when i try to clock the ram down from 1136 to say, 888, and save and reboot, it goes back to 1136. i haven't attempted any testing just, yet. but here's a snap shot of my current attempt to hit 3.2GHz.

also, here are my current settings.
