Hi All,

I've got a pretty standard setup of X38-DQ6 (of course), Q6600 GO, 2 x 2G Corsair Modules, 8800GT, 700W Power Supply, etc.

Using info on this forum, I've got the machine stable at 3.51Ghz (390x9) and it'll pass OCCT, Prime95, etc without problems.

Only hassle I have with the machine is that it'll go into S3 Standby from Vista Ultimate x64 but gets stuck in the endless power cycle trying to wakeup. In the end I have to switch off the power supply and when switched back on and the power switch hit, Vista then starts up as if coming out of S3 Standby, but BIOS is set back to 2.4GHz.

BIOS settings below, any ideas?

Hey thanks for the quick response...

I don't get this TRD what is it.... I'm nooob :-) ?

I think it is about memory right?

my memory is 1200Mhz at 5,5,5,18 at 2.35 volts (default settings by kingston)

Hi pturtle,
welcome to the forum

Yep that's often difficult to tell if it's hardware or OS related. Personally i have the minimum sleep settings, though i'm running xp so can't really say about vista.

How long have you run prome & was it blend test ??
I'm not clear what memory you have

Corsair Modules
covers a lot of ground

if anything your vcore is either very good or you might try turning it up a notch (next highest) & see if the problem recurs.

luck

Updates....

I flash the bios back to F5H.
set mem multi 2.66d
set Memory Advanced settings are all set to auto
drop the mem voltage a bit 0.55 to 0.50v
vcore: when I try to decrease the voltage nothing working in prime...I can run all other benchmarks with lower voltage but in prime if I don't have 1.5125v....I'm getting blue screen... I'm thinking that it might be a prime95 bug since ortho is doing fine...but prime use 100% cpu ortho doesn't.

should I start from scrach...dropping the fsb to get 3.4G or should I try again diff setting...I'm a bit lost right now..
......................
new.... i'm getting big vdrop....

bios 1.450v
cpuz idle 1.408v
cpuz load 1.378v

I'm getting peak at 62C under load with wPrime
idle temp 43-44C

Is this a normal behavior? should I try to stay above 1.40 under load?? even if in the bios it is set to 1.5v?

what is the max temp/voltage I should use for a daily use?

thanks
Marcus

Hi marcus,

did you also try setting these ??
Quote:
Try:-
Code:

Standard Timing ControlCAS Latency Time: : Auto =5
DRAM RAS# to CAS# : = 5
DRAM RAS# Precharge : = 5
Precharge Delay(tRAS) : = 10
Advanced Timing Control
ACT to ACT Delay(tRRD) : 4
Rank Write to READ Delay : 4
Write To Precharge Delay : 8
Refresh to ACT Delay : 30
Read To Precharge Delay 4
tRD : Try 7
tRD Phase Adjustment : Auto
Command to #CS Timing: :2
[/code]
Yes TRD is part of the mempory sub timings. to lower value & memory is unstable. Too high & memory runs slow.

If TRD is left on auto - Performance Enhance setting changes TRD value
Std TRD = higher, Turbo TRD is tighter , Extreme TRD IS real tight.
So try the value of 7 as suggested ed in my earlier suggestion.

with quad cpu use prime orthos is for wimps , no it's just for 2 core

whatever you really feel comfortable with. 62C sounds fine on load, though your idlle temps are normally mid 30s what are you reading the temps from.

Vdroop isn't an issue as long as it's stable, that comes from a decent PSU. It decreases as vcore lowers so hopefully you should be able to run with lower vcore.
luck

I read the temp in coreTemp... is it good enough?

as soon as I pass 1.45 the idle temp get in mid 45C

what about wPrime yes WPrime...I can run this one no prob. but not prime95

Core temp is fine.

Get Prime here Prime 95 v. 25.5 no it's not the same.

Prime runs 2 types of test Large ffts & small ffts, the 1st stresses memory , the 2nd cpu.
By default it runs blend but gives you the option to override on opening.

Try changing the memory timings to those shown & seeing what happens when running prime.

It sounds as if it's your memory yjay's causing the prime failure.
You need to up your Memory voltage.
the defaultt is the jdec std of 1.80v so in overvolt terms , your memory voltage is at 1.80+ = 2v The operating voltage for your ram is shownin the 1st page of the review i linked As you see your 0.2v under operating voltage so up & re run prime at 800 , hopefully you should be about right. If oit runs ok, try increasing from standard, Test again. This tightens timings & gives better performance, So if you can get the Extreme & still run stable your well sorted.

let us kno whow you go on.

luck
Okay, so I'm not exactly sure what I did, I'll have to check later, but I kicked up the volts as you suggested, to 0.40 and got that going. I also kicked up my vcore to 1.325. I did notice that CPUz is still reading that as 1.28 or 1.29. I was able to run prime95 and get a stress test running. 8K passed...10k passed...12k, 14k, so on and so on....so I let this run overnight. temps looked impressive as well, 55C's on cores 0 and 1 and 45C on core 2 and 3. When I got up this morning, BSOD! I looked coretemp log and it ran fine up to 64k, but doesn't show much after that. Prime95 log shows the same. I'd insert an image, but not sure where or how to do that.

i'll submit all the changes I made later.

Thanks in advance!
