Damn it. I hate being n00b.
I haven't overclocked since the good old days of the NF4 DFI lanparty days...fun times...before that I had a "toaster"!!! - the seasoned ocer's will know what that means

but now that I have my x38-dq6, SLACKR Q6600, Crucial 8500 and my shiny new voltmodded 8800GT I am ready to go...

I am READING all the GREAT info here. Making my way through the stickies

Only question I have so I continue on my way is WHERE I find the beta bios' for the x38...as from what I gather the newest bios on giga's website is not the newest bios if Beta is considered newest....

is that correct ?

I will go back to testing and post my findings if I can just get a little help with the bios version.

currently have the shipping bios at 3.8ghz stable

thanks and sorry for being a n00b

Welcome to the forums Morpheon

I think most of us went from the toaster to the NF4 and then to this, so we know how odd it can be

Not sure on the BIOS, I'll point supershanks here.

Hi Morpheon,

a few of us were there

The official Site for Bios is here Gigabyte DQ6 Bios

They've actually delisted the bios most found stable on quads F5G & F5H, those are the ones all my benches etc., are run on. I've not tried official 7 but as ckirkby3 said a few posts back it's not exactly had a great reception. If you want to try them get them from here DQ6 BTA F5G & F5H

Just run the Exe to extract the bios files.

Ah. What a great reception. Thanks. I was hoping that would be the case.

I used to be all over the dfi-street forums before they got shut down and I had no idea where to find a new forum...looks like this is the place.

Thank you for the link to beta bios. I will load them up as soon as I get home and continue trying to bring the sweet spot into focus.

Based on what you guys have seen is 4Ghz stable on the G0 q6600 a real possibility or is just for those with cherry picked G0 q6600s? (or at least moderately stable...I dont have to have it prime95 for 400hours...but 1 or 2 is enough for me.)

Thanks again! I look forward to contributing as much as I can!

Short answer is no. It's good fun for a few shots as you see i've done. 3.8k stable is good, I got 465x8 stable. I'm currently running over here on Abit IX38 Quad GT - Living Review II Max stable there is 470x8 so really points cpu being maxed out around 8x470ish

luck

I'm out & about on a few forums
Re: **Official ABIT IX38 QuadGT Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**
Abit Care Abit IX38 Quad GT
OCUk
amongst others.

There are about 3 or 4 users posting in the abit thread who are also on the xtreme thread.

Our aim here is to provide a diifferent kind of review What Kind Of Review Do You Prefer? We aim to give a good in depth review as well as share prime stable settings and issues, with new or potential owners , either noob or ocers.

From your nf4 days, you'll perhaps remember getting the mobo & thinking "oh bugger where can i get a head start on settings" & findig DFI St stable overclock thread we aim to do that & a bit more.

By definition on a forum information flows both ways, it's bout exchanging info , It's not really for me to say how much traffic goes in out or in put it this way i hope we make a decent original contribution.

Looks like your into Mods ??

luck

Hi all,

Hope this is the right place to post this, I've built a machine based around this board (GA-X38Q6) and it all seems to work OK so far. The only think I am disappointed with is the GASATAII Raid controller, it doesn't perform as well as the Intel ICH9 controller.

My config

Gigabyte GA-X38Q6
Intel Core Duo 6850 with Stock Cooler
2GB Corsair PC6400 DDR2 CL4 (2x1Gb Matched Pair)
Gainward GeForce 8800GTS 640Mb Graphics card
2xWD Raptor 74Gb setup on Stripped array on GSATAII - Throughput only show 54Mb/s?
3xSamsung SATAII 500Gb Raid5 - Throughput 95Mb/s
2xPioneer 112 OEM
Antec Sonata III case
Sony 1.44Mb

Hi RRM.
welcome to the forum
Glad to see you happy with your build.
I use the Intel matrix raid in preference to the GASATAII Raid controller, which is only the re badged Jmicron controller found elsewhere on other boards.

Is it possible to use the intel controller to setup two seperate raid arrays?
If it is can I move my raid array over without having to reinstall Vista?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Also I have found a newer version of the driver on JMicrons website, thinking about trying it out.
