Honestly I don't even know why there is a PCI slot on a motherboard of this class.
What card would you install that is available as PCI only?
Only thing that comes to my mind is some semipro level audio cards like the Delta range from M-Audio.
But anyway, the way I see it is that most people that use multi-GPU setups will only have the video cards installed, maybe an audio card too but gamer models come in PCI Express 1x nowadays.
I see what you mean, you invested a good deal of money in a premium soundcard and you wouldn't like to throw it away.
But, people that buy a mobo in this price range will simply buy a new PCI Express audio card to go with it, like the Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe.
My Xonar Essence STX runs like a charm.
But anyway, back on topic my point is that if you can afford this mobo and two video cards you'll get whatever you need for the upgrade.
There are good cards out there in PCI Express 1x format.
And the PCI slot is usable if you are not using 2 video cards.
it will do the Essence STX is a better sounding card and Built better than the 1.3 Deluxe, i take it your runing analog with card? or are you Digital?, also the Essence were bringing out a 5.1 addon card (it was listed on asus) if you have that even better .
The STX would be the only card i would upgrade to , only downfall is no 5EAX HD as i use this in certain games.
If you have headphones (like me) it is the card to go for, the dedicated integrated amp is really powerful, the card won't even run if you don't connect a molex to it lol.
