Dropped FSB slightly to allow for tighter memory timings from 8-7-6-21

Supershanks,

I don't know how to thank you for your excellent work.
A short while ago, I purchased the Asus p5e3 deluxe wifi, a q6600 g0, and the Cellshock ddr3 1800 8-7-6-21 (cs3222580).
I'm a noob at overclocking and after some searching, I ran into your post. What can I say.
I decided to go ahead with your settings with a few small exceptions. To be more specific, since i'm currently air cooled (NB coolscraper 120 v2) I have left the cpu multiplier on 7 and lowered the cpu voltage.
Everything seems to work fine, benched using prime95 without errors, tested using sisoftware amongst others with very good results. Temperatures are ok but point towards a water cooling solution (again I'm a noob and have been looking into the details of a custom kit for the best possible results without falling into the known pitfalls).
Now for the problem I'm facing, occasionally my system reboots without warning. I have run memtest86 without errors, I have run prime95 without errors, and the occasional reboots happen when system is in idle.
I've tried tweaking voltages, timings with no results.

Regardless, your work is a gold mine and invaluable.
Thank you for all your efforts.

Hi James,
Welcome to the forum
Thanks for the words , flattery will get you everywhere
Assume your on 3150 then 450x7 ??
That's an Interesting cooler not seen that before
NB-CoolScraper 120 V2.0

When you say it passes Prime is that blend and how long have you run it??

Similarly with memtest how lomg a run did you do. Also Memtest86 isn't always sensitive enough to capture memory errors. I use Memtest HCI This runs in your OS and can detect errors that 86 miss. neither is perfect but I'd give HCI a go as well.

Have you tried increasing
FSB Termination Voltage......: 1.32v
or
North Bridge Voltage.........: 1.68v

to the next settings up ??

Hi Supershanks,

Yup, 3150 450x7 is right.
I live in Greece and sometimes it is a little difficult to find certain products. Certainly all well known products are available but certain fringe products are hard to find.
I ran into the cooler in a webpage of a local (greek) supplier and ordered it and I was very happy with the results so I bought another (2 systems same type cooler).
I'll check out memtest HCI and give it a try.
I have only benched and tested the system for a couple of hours, will test it furthur during the weekend when there is less work to be done.
The voltages you mentioned were always set to auto until I read your post. If the problem persists (I have been working since my original post without problem) I will test one than the other than both settings to see if I get the proper result.

Incidently, I had not used blend setting on prime95. while I was typing this post, I tried it and the system rebooted in seconds (I had saved the above text to my desktop before trying prime95 just in case ). I took advantage and increased fsb termination voltage by one setting leaving NB voltage the same. I am now running the test and will continue to monitor the situation.

Thanks again for everything.

James Theonas

If prime blend failed in seconds, then I thionk it's probably memory that is your issue . The 1st set of ffts that prime blend runs is Large 1024m , so stresses memory more than CPU.

In which case I'd try :-

North Bridge Voltage.........: 1.68v increasing to the next settings up
and/or
Dram Voltage .............: 1.85v -->1.90v

luck

Sorry for the delay, stopped fooling around at about six in the morning and got a few zee's before work.

Back to business, I tried tampering with NB Voltage up to 1.75 and FSB Termination Voltage up to 1.36 (and combinations of both) to no avail. Played with Ai Clock Twister and Boost level (set them to auto and back) again nothing. Dram Voltage from 1.7 to 1.9, command rate from 1n to 2n and back, I even loosened the timings to 8-8-8-25. I never get past the 10 minute mark on Prime95 blend test without error.

Honestly i'm at a loss as to what else to try.

I hope I'm not being a burden, you have already helped more than enough.

Thank you very much (elvis).

No Problems. 10 minutwes is at least an improvement.

Did Prime blend fail again at Large Fft (> 512k or < 512k Small Ffts.
If Large then I'd try running the Memtest HCI just to check the memory. I'd try it overnight to give it a good test.

If small try upping vcore & maybe adding a little PLL

Hey Supershanks,

Prime Blend failed at Large Fft. I had set the system to run and at some point it had rebooted. Reran the test just now and again in about 10 minutes boom (10 minutes is not an actual time measurement, it's an aproximation).

I am currently testing 8-8-8-25 and NB Voltage to 1.71v.
I have tried raising Vcore from 1.3V (1.28 on HW Monitor) to 1.35 and more with no change (sorry forgot to mention than in previous post). PLL I haven't touched yet.

Thread 2 just failed.

Still can't help but feeling like I'm taking advantage.

James Theonas.

p.s. I forgot to mention, I have the latest Bios installed, I don't know if that matters (I was reading something about installing older bios earlier in the thread but didn't understand why).
Currently finished 9 tests at 1024 FFT and has started on FFT with 8K length. 20 Minutes and going. Crossing my fingers.
