i noticed high CPU VTT voltage for that MARS board....1.7x is pretty significant in my mind!

i am not happy if that NB barn is going to be in the way like it is on the DFI LT X38 board...you have to mount the TRUE towards the North position, facing the PSU...that does not sit right with me....so, you are forced to extract the heatpipe system or the individual heatsink to install a 3rd party heatsink...in that case, you do not want a tied in heatpipe system.

is that Foxconn X48 a ddr-3 board?...i had a hard time telling.

Yep especially as Intel's recommended max is 1.55v Adjusting [Advanced] Gunning Transceiver Logic (A/GTL+) Voltage Levels
for Increased Front Side Bus (FSB) Signalling Margins and Overclocking

Intel rates the maximum VTT voltage for desktop processors at 1.55v
Yep agree re athe mars heatpipes & mounting a CPU Cooler, removes one of the features. ok if your playing barebones but not a good solution case wise.

If the link worked in my last post that's the blackops x48 looking a little different to the initial publicity shots here:-
Foxconn Blackops X48 - January That's DDR3 only. Was quiet keen on it but with the poorer NB cooling system & a concern that the voltage settings are as coarse as the mars is cooling down my enthusiasm, may be back to Asus if I decide to go X48 early.

The Foxconn X38A is the hybrid board.

luck

ain't that the truth about performance although my camry hybrid does very well for gas mileage and also for horsepower when you need it!

i was close to buying the X38A board but i am also trying to find some moderate priced ddr-3 memory...my usual ordering place in the USA is newegg.com is out of stock on some of the lesser expensive OCZ platinum ddr-3...they also have the Foxconn X38A board...i generally like to order those items from the same online retail parts place.

i haven't checked cellshock prices here but i would think they would be higher since the company is based in europe.

there are ways around the import/export tax rates.

i remember flying lexus's automobiles in a cargo B-747 from japan to USA (JFK airport) and then change crew to fly those 24 cars to Hong Kong to avoid a 40% tariff if they came direct from japan to hong kong...coming from the USA was only 10% tariff...strange stuff.

Yep can understand the 2x2gb option, though i'm still on XP so I don't feel the urgency as much. I'm rationalising , if you can , that the £ is about what i paid in Jan last year for performance DDR2.
