easier to drink the fluid instead of thinking how miniscule we are in the overall scheme of the universe!

i thought this quote from anandtech.com article is very interesting about the newest 45nm processors:

Default Scan & Intel

In accordance to Scan's requirements :_
I submitted my tests using Stock coolers & coretemp reported VID. Test were performwed on bench rather than in case. As you can see the E8400 was only 2.4C cooler than the E6600Go.
E8400 Temp Comparisons

Well after Scan's shabby response in referring me to Intel. got the reply from Intel , which unsuprisingly gave nothing away & no answers to my query Intel Technical Support Request

Quote:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for contacting Intel technical support. Your current CPU temperature is nearly about 45°C, and DTS of 62° and it is normal. Intel® Core™2 Duo Desktop Processor E8400, Thermal Specification is 72.4°C. Please refer this link for your further information.

Intel® Core™2 Duo Desktop Processor E8400 - SLAPL

Best regards,
Stanislaus,
In other words thanks for nothing.

So Following Scan's example for passing the buck i've sold the CPU.

I'm still no clearer wether the temps are real or the sensors are in error.

Either way it's not what I'd be particularly happy with.

Assuming things can be sorted it's a decent Ł'd CPU offering some good performance. Must admit though i think i'm a quad man now It's a bit like comparing a 125cc bike with a kawasaki 1100cc

So long term iI'll wait for Yorkfield, I may also wait a while to see if there are any issues first

If the temps are correct, then haven't Intel have falsely advertised the CPUs as running "cooler"?....Cooler than what? a Prescott? Certainly not cooler than the E6420/E6600, which is what you would expect it to replace.

From this, I can only wonder how hot the new quads are going to be if 72c is considered OK for a dual core.

Looks like we have stepped back a few generations temp wise for a relatively modest bump in performance.

a quote from an article...it affects the mobile 45nm chips but notice the "WHY"!

Quote:
Intel experiencing worldwide Penryn delays?
Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on January 15, 2008 - 11:55 PM

According a message purportedly sent from a Lenovo rep to resellers today, Intel's T9500, T9300, T8300 and T8100 Penryn chips are going to be delayed, affecting the laptop industry worldwide -- and obviously Lenovo's latest in particular. The word is that a thermal sensor issue is to blame, and supply on the chips will be tight through February.

Nothing official from Intel yet on the matter, so we're going to keep this in the rumor category for the moment -- but don't be surprised when that shiny new Penryn laptop of yours ends up taking a few extra weeks. Be strong, we can make it through this together.
