this has been the problem with running OCCT and Prime 95...you have these fanatics out there who rest their whole case on stability running those two benches for 'X' amount of hours and then, they think the system is solid/stable.

a stable system to me is having no BSOD; no freezes; use any app installed on the puter without incident; no random reboots; play games without freezing or dropping back to the desktop...that is individual user stability...no OCCT or Prime 95 can EVER guarantee that!

I agree with that, but I do think that Prime is a good indicator of overall CPU & RAM stabilility in general.

Each to their own I would say

BUT...those two stability benches lull the unsuspecting user into thinking he/she is bullet proof protected from those issues....i think users waste to much time AND electrical energy attempting to find the magic formula for OCCT and Prime 95 stability.

Also, if you run them backwards, you can hear "Achey Breakey Heart" sung by Satan himself.

At the end of the day all OCCT & Prime or similar tests can do is give you a feel for the probability of an error. Run it for 10 minutes tells you bugger all really. The longer the test has run arguably the lower the probability of error. Yes I appreciate the point

I'm an habitual overclocker & want a 24/7 stability that doesn't leave me up to my neck in crocodiles after my rig crashed.

I fully realise that priming doesn't preclude errors happening, it just helps you assess the degree of possibility

It also gives some indication of the quality and possibly the durability of an overclock:-
1) how many times have we fallen for buying brand x memory or whatever , on the basis of some benches which surprisingly never seem to be repeatable.
2) Bios settings such as we list here in the reviews also can also be seen to have been stable with our components. It doesn't mean the settings are plug & play of course but provide a decent starting point to any new adopter of the board/equipment been tested.

luck

Having zero BSOD is unlikely due to millions of different hardware configs always get the odd bad occassional driver.
As for stability testing programs they just give general feel of no hardware related problems due to poor cpu calculation and memory addressing problems.

as i said they just give an indication of a reduced probability of errors if passed, not that rig is error free
