don't worry about temps the intel tech support guy told me!...he said let the board worry about it...the cpu will tell the board to shut down if you encroach into that magic temperature zone.

This is an interesting point re the E8400 Memory Issues with E8400
I notiuced i had to slacken tras from a rock steady 5,5,5,10 to 5,5,5,12 , Zenoth seems to have similar , though more extreme issues.

Anyone else finding they have to slacken memory timings to run with E8400 ??
Anyone explain the reason
New instruction set ??
Another magic zone

There might be some truth in this:

AnandTech: Overclocking Intel's New 45nm QX9650: The Rules Have Changed

I apologize if this link has been posted before.

that article is more in tune with vcore voltage values changed for the 45nm processors...the day of 65nm processors taking more voltage without damage can not be tolerated in the 45nm cpu's.

i always used 5-5-5-15...on the DFI LT board i was able to use 12 instead of 15 for a while...that was using a QX9650.

the whole makeup of 45nm processor looks to have changed as compared to what you could do with a 65nm processor...i just discoverd that i can set 60%CPU GTLREF on my IP35 Pro board and run wPrime 1024M stability bench without any problem at 4.2ghz...you couldn't do that with a 65nm cpu!..right!

I think sounds about right

CPU GTLREF
It's interesting i found that tweaking gtlref with my q6600 go on the abit ix38 quad made a big difference to my stability, which without putting too finer point on it was crap before that.

yeah, i could not get my Q6600 'G0' up to 3940 mhz without using 69% for a CPU GTLREF...OR...even 3.8ghz for that matter.
