Default Dfi x38

Hi Clunk!

I'm new to ur forum and found it seeking help about my newest purchase ...
These are my results so far (got it this morning )

DFI X38 <== gotta luv it
E6850
2x1Gb Crucial Ballistix PC8500 (heatspreaders are fine)
2x1Gb Transcends PC9600
Watercooling @ 3° unload (thermochill 120.3 hanging out the window )

MaxFSB 550*6 (stable 530*6)
MaxCPU 475*9 OCCT stable

my mem were on divider 1:1 in all test and runs (i did lots more but this is the most relevant)

My point in all this is the following:
Both Crucial and Transcends fail to work usual speed of 1280 1335 1440 ???
I did SuperPI's on my maximus 1440mhz no crashes (1M ofcourse)
But now it doens't appear to work :s
I even had 2.8v on the transcends (then usualy luv it ) but noo 1335 was unstable

Any help?

Welcome to the forums

Don't forget that the Maximus has an overvolt on the RAM by anything up to 0.09v, so that might explain the higher clocks, but I also notice further down that you have been running them with 2.8v, in which case, they are probably dead or nearly dead

Memtest time I think

hey, welcome!...i am fairly new myself.

i was wondering about that 2.8 vdimm...it sounds a little to high unless you used it only a short time...maybe you had a fan on the sticks during that time with 2.8v?

did you try using high SB and medium NB voltage?

Default Back ...

Thx to the both of you Glad to have found u ...

1)Memtest time? naaah ... my modules were treated like my ladies

2)I know about the overvoltage of the dear maximus and i adapted on the dfi so it shouldn't be the problem ...

3)Indeed, i always have a 120mm fan blowing on the modules during OC
The modules (transcend in this case) run stoch 1200@2.2v and did 1333 no sweat on the maximus bios set to 2.4v (2.5v real) and stable ...

On the dfi however, 2.5v wasn't enough, no boot ... 2.6v still nothing ... 2.7v i saw movement so i went for it but still blocks around 52 on the mobo code thingy during boot :s

(under dice i gave em 2.8 during a full hour @ 1420)

The Ballistix are pretty new to my table so i haven't tested further than 2.5v ...

I really think they're gonna have to tweak their BIOS a bit till all of this works because from what i could see of ur screenshots ur mem was unstable too above 1050mhz? correct?

Which won't necessarily cool your ram effectively. Depending on distance from target a 120mm fan has a lsrge dead spot at the centre. this may mean that some memory chips are effectively cooled while others aren't

luck

A fan on DDR2 with 2.8v through it, even for a few seconds can be enough to kill it, so I wouldn't be too sure it is ok, and trust me, I've killed many sets with much less voltage than that with good cooling

I haven't pushed the RAM yet on this board, the results that you see were just the early clocks with 400x9 and then the available dividers with no more than 2.29v, and also 1:1 with the Wolfdale.

I had a failing Q6600 G0, so that is being replaced early next week, and then I can get back to work and see what it'll do

I memtested all 4 modules Working like a charm, bandwith is also spectactularly better than what i expected ...

Since u haven't been clocking the mem till now, i'll wait to see what ur opinion is on the matter

Like transcends worked well on the maximus, team extreem didn't so it is possible there is is a compatibility issue ... but crucials ??? they fit everywhere usualy :s

Anyways thx for the responses everyone!

'BTW i've only burned 1 module in my life and it was a kingmax ddr2 667 of 2 years old
LOL

glad to hear the memory sticks are still working...i know that i hurt one of 2 corsair sticks (Dominators) by putting only 2.5 or 2.6v for just a very short time; not more than 2 hours...i had to RMA the sticks back...now, i try to stay below 2.3 to 2.4...actually, i am at 1.95v on my Gskill ddr800 sticks, which will do about ddr1000 but it does require higher vdimm
