Yes I think that the default MCH Reference is 0.8V ? so may impact it from stock settings.

Personally I do flash to the latesst bios, but it's really up to you. For F6 you need to run it from or a USB flash drive. Check out here if your unsure how to prepare a floppy or USB drive HOW TO FLASH WITH A FLOPPY AND USB DRIVE IN DOS though ace wrote it for the Abit boards, preparation is the same. when media is prepared just extract the 3 files and copy across.
Usually Gigabyte Bios can be updated from the Bios Main Page by pressing [F8] :-

But ocassionaly the update has to be done via AWDFlash method. You can always tell, if there is only a single file run via bios , just stick the 1024kb bios file on a usb drive and use the bios flash
To flash from bootable USB drive , plug in USB drive & press [F12] then you will see the boot order , select USB and the flash will then run.

Don't Flash from windows. All manufacturers have utilities to do this , but all carry much more risk than the above methods.

yes, used the qflash already to save the current bios to an usb stick I'd used to try slax with.
Couldn't help myself and also installed xp on it, no drivers yet, went fine.

CPU fan was controllable by speedfan by setting fan_1 to Software control. the Powerfan didn't seem controllable, but did report back the speed, which is nice if your PSU has the connecter for that.

this is sure one of the best P45 mobo, been testing with my cheap E7300 and seems like this mobo doing really well with voltages

running 3.8Ghz with 8GB RAM
vcore: 1.30625v LLC Enabled
idle cpuz: 1.28v
orthos blend/small: 1.28v
NB: 1.26v
vDimm: 1.8v
will boot above 500fsb only with MCHref 0.72 (will not post if more or less)


535fsb is also with decent voltages, still MCHref at 0.72

only need 1.2 (stock) up until 510fsb (8x510) and jump like 1.26 above 510fsb, even at 512fsb it wont get stable with 1.24VTT

Just had some feedback from Gigabyte re the new v1.1 Revision. The heatpipes are changed, principal change being the orientation of the Northbridge cooler which is totated so the Sloped side faces the CPU, so giving a little more clearance to the CPU cooler.

Yes sounds about right, it's also worth playing with CPU Reference. I Find that
1.32V VTT and 0.836V CPU Reference work well together. Once you have the right balance , you can leave the reference alone and the value will chabge automatically as you change CPU Termination.
