bit of an oversight in my view, especially considering the price.

yes it is was talking to a guy over on extreme who wanted them, i hadn't really checked before. For me i'd manage with a couple less USB slots for 2xE-sata. + 1 point for Abit IX38 QuadGT, has 2.

Is 3.6 GHz the highest you can go on a Q6600 G0 step? If not, how high can you clock it (upping vcore to 1.5+?) to a point that it's stable? What is the vdroop like on that board?

No mate, that was first boot after fitting the water cooling...I'm just seeing what is stable first before I start benching.

For some reason, nothing was stable with the B3, but I suspect that was the NB temps.

Welcome to the forums by the way

Right, well I've only just managed my first stable clock at 3.6Ghz - It is a completely different beast to the last few boards I've had, and needs some careful setting up. it may just be the current BIOS that is a bit flakey, but we will see.

To get stable last night, I put all these to the highest yellow value before they turned red.
  • CPU PLL
  • North Bridge Voltage
  • FSB Termination Voltage
  • South Bridge Voltage (You probably wont need to do this one, but I did it anyway to see)
  • CPU GTL Reference - Highest setting (I'll go back over these to see what is needed)
  • North Bridge GTL Reference - Same as above
  • SB 1.5v Voltage
As I say, thats what I did to get stable, and also check your RAM, Asus Probe is shoing a hefty overvolt of just under 0.1v, and my CPU needs much more voltage than on the P5K Deluxe, but that might change.

Hmmm, what happens if you take those sticks of RAM out and put the others in their place?

I remember when I had my commando, I kept getting that error when one of my sticks of RAM was dying.

this x38 chipset definatly makes a good board....
i've been playing with my P5E bios. its interesting seeing what other peoples experimention with these two boards reveal.
on my P5E theres a sticker over the name maximus formula. i thought the layout looked similar. i bought the P5E because i thought it would perform equally as well, the maximus bios has the extra settings missing from the p5E.... so fine tuning the maximus will give you a few more mhz.
i'll update with any bios setting info i find out..... lets see how far these boards can go....
