Just a few years ago, the humble heatsink was a single piece of aluminium with fins cut into it - Fast forward a couple of years and heat pipes started to appear, they were widely regarded as a marketing gimmick at the time, but as the technology progressed, we started to see some excellent performers....

Excellent! And looking formard to the NB cooler review, the offset fins should fit 12cm wide coolers without blocking the first PCI Express slot!

Just waiting to see your porter review and to see what you thought of that badboy. (apart from it being a bugger to fit).
I was considering the 1284, but decided that the 1283 would be better. My thinking is that 3 pipes in contact with the the C2D IHS was better than 2 1/2 as you pointed out the area of the 4 pipes overhangs the edges of the IHS.
My initial thoughts of the Xigmatech porter and 1283.....very impressed
