Default E4500 2.2ghz on Asus P5K - OC problem

Hello,

Here's the gear:
-Motherboard: Asus p5k
-CPU: Intel e4500, 2.2ghz
-Memory: Patriot PC2-6400 low latency 2x 1gb

Forgive me my english, i am still learning ;p

So here's the deal. I have been trying to oc my cpu for very long time and the best thing which i made is 2.93ghz. I am not happy about it, because i heard that some people made their e4500 on 3.33ghz without adding very much voltage. I made my current bios setup with "Core 2 Duo Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On" topic (on this forum)

Let me show you my bios shots:

So this is how my pc works every day, without big problems. But i would like to get more ^^
I had been trying to make 3.1ghz but without success. Of course i added some voltage
(1.425v on cpu didnt help) and set my memory to the lowest frequency. Orthos is crashing after few seconds or i i got bluse screen.
I tried to low cpu multiplier to x8 (x11 is deafult) but it didnt work neither. On the other hand I could start vista on lower voltage but it was still not stable, orthos crash after 15 seconds.
Please notice that i cleaned up my radiator and changed cpu thermo paste.

Please give me advice

Edit: Oh i forgot to add that i updated bios to the latest version.

Hello there, welcome to the forums.

I say do these changes and see what happens:

CPU Ratio setting: 9
FSB strap to NB: 333
FSB frequency: 333
DRAM Frequency: DDR2-800
CPU Voltage: 1.35 (It is ok to increase this but depends on how good your cooling is)
CPU PLL Voltage:1.25 (tops)
FSB Termination Voltage:1.3 (tops)

What cooling do you have? Stock? If so you might want to get a aftermarket unit.

Thanks for posting my images.

I changed settings by your advice but minimum PLL V is 1.5v, i cant go lower. Strange thing is that orthos reads my frequency as 3.663 ghz (it doesnt recognize new multiplier ). When i first click start it doestn start at all, when i click start 2nd time i get blue screen after 4 second. I will try to give some extra voltage.

And yes, my cpu radiator is stock. I was thinking about changing it, but i dont want to waste money if i am not sure if new cooler will help. But i bought cooler to my box to make inside of the box more "windy" ^^.

Oh and what about NB voltage? currently i am on the lowest 1.25v

EDIT: OK. CPU v 1.365 helped a little, orthos crashes after 40 seconds. But i guess its not because of thempertaure because on the 40th second i had 68 heat on both cores. But it still reads frequency wrong. I will try to play some games maybe i will leave it like that.

Uh sorry I got it confused you're absolutely right stock PLL for C2D CPUs is 1.5 i meant no more than 1.55 but you shouldn't need any increase.

So the memory is going at 800 MHz now? If CPU-Z confirms (or if you can read it during POST), grab Memtest HCI and run 3 or 4 instances till you get all your memory tested. Test everything at stock frequencies and voltages, and set the memory voltage to whatever it says on the sticker.

Nop, was not stable on this configuration. I had to go back to previous oc. I think that on higher oc my cpu needs more voltage but i cant set more, cause when i do this my cpu is getting hot very quickly (72 on both cores in 30 seconds on 1.4v).

But I wonder how is it possible that my cpu needs so much volatge. You see, at 2.93ghz (x11) its stable on 1.3375v and at 3 ghz (only 70mhz more!!!! with ratio x9) its stable on 1.38v - 1.4v. Dont tell me that this is normal. Maybe something is fucked up in my bios config? Do i really have to add 0.07v to get only 70 mhz more? COME ON WTF IS GOING ON :/

One problem is that you are on stock cooling, the higher the temperature goes, the more voltage you'll need for the same OC. Ofcourse that will increase the temps even more so you hit the limit pretty fast on air.
Anyway did you test the memories.

Allright, i made memory test with MemtestHCI. On deafult bios setup (all on auto) i made 110% of coverage in one hour without any errors.
But when i have been doing test on 2.93ghz and RAM: 4-4-4-12 / 887MHZ / 2.25V i got error "Memory error detected". It said that RAM cant read or load data or something like that and i should fix it.

Basically this means your ram is fine but it holds the rest of the system back back when overclocking if you stay on the 333-800 divider.
Try setting your memory speed in BIOS so it displays the double of the FSB speed, ie
FSB: 333
Memory speed: DDR2-667

Damn i would really like to stay at 333 x 9 and 667mhz ram cause stability is quite better than yesterday. The only fault IS that Its getting hot in here

If u told me that 75 degrees in one minute because of Orthos's torture at 9th priority is not so bad, I would leave those settings ;p

As I said, getting a good cooler will solve that problem. Have a look at the price of the Xigmatek S1283.
Where do you live if I may ask.
