Default Problematic X48T-DQ6 Overclock

Hi there,

its been a while since my last post last time i had problems with a faulty battery holder.
RMA'd my board and upgraded a few things in the past months. Went back for auto-settings as i barely had time to play with oc'ing. Now that im back to squeeze more performance out of my board. I running into a weird problem.

Im having problems to keep my overclock stable.
I've been reading forums (mushkin, gigabyte,oc'er forum, guides etc) for weeks now without luck.

I hope someone has got an idea whats keeping it back.

First off my spec:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
MB: X48T-DQ6 F5 Bios
RAM: 4x Mushkin 996601 (8GB RAM) XP3-12800 DDR3 - Mushkin Enhanced
CPU Cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283
Case Coolers: 5x Scythe STREAM SY1225SL12M @720rpm
Case: Antec 182p
GPU: ATI Radeon 4870 512MB (not oc'd)
HDD: SATA WD Velociraptor (GLFS) 300GB @ ICH9
HDD: SATA Seagate 1TB @ ICH9
PSU: Corsair HX620W

Monitoring done with Scythe Kaze Master and CoreTemp
Stability Test done with memtest86+ and Prime95 64bit
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit

My problem is that once i overclock it and run a Prime95 for over 12hours+ stable without any issues. On the next day i startup my rig when i get from work and do simple i-net researches and watching video clips and short avi's my system freezes and cracking sounds appears out of my headphones. Why is it stable for heavy processing on one day and on the other day it hangs on simple tasks?

I set my CPU Voltage Control to 1.28750V as i get a correct Core Voltage off 1.232-1.248 at Idle. Which is my VID 1.2500V.

PS: Just had the freeze/cracking sound/need to reset, while writing this post. again...

When you say you've run Prime , what did you run Blend ?
Freezing like that is often due to tRFC (Refresh to ACT Delay) being too tight. try using Memset to view your SPD Check what the trfc value is. Or try inctreasding it from 60 to 62 or higher and see if the error recurrs.

memtest86+ isn'y always the best tool to check Ram, see Memtest HCI & the link Memtest86+ v Memtest HCI
.

  • I always run Prime 95 blend.
  • Initially tRFC was set to auto (Memset shows it at 72), then I tried setting it to 82, but it was unsuccessfull.-
Any sugestion?

tRFC=82
ram speed: 1600MHz 8-8-8-24-2T @1.95V

I tried with Static tRead Value (Perfomance Level) set to 8 & 9, but without succeed.-

I'm not sure what chips your ram uses it might need higher trfc, I know some Clunk and I tried a while back neded a Trfc value that exceeded the highest bios option . Try tRFC or 95 and/or Static tRead Value of 10.

I tried both, but the problem persists.

I'm running on F5 bios version, should I try upgrade it?

I upgraded to F6D bios version but my pc still freezes making that horrible noise no matter if I set ram at 1600 or 1333MHz.
