Default FarCry 2: Widescreen or "Cut- down-screen" ?

It appears that the latest and highly anticipated Ubisoft game, FarCry 2, comes with a huge flaw and no, it's not his draconian DRM.
If you use a 16:10 or 16:9 AR screen, instead of getting a wider FOV (Field Of View), all you get is a cropped down 4:3 image.
Yes, the game renders a cropped 4:3 frame, and this is obviously absurd as one of the advantages of wide aspect ratio screens is that you see more compared to a traditional 4:3 screen, not less (the other one is that widescreen LCDs are cheaper to produce, but that's another story).
An unofficial patch is out already (clicky), but it's SP only as PunkBuster will give you the boot from the server when you login.

It's beyond me how a huge oversight like this can happen on a popular game like this. I could understand if it just wasn't doable for whatever reason, but as someone has done a patch, it looks like they forgot

As i understand it, it's just a hack to override the FOV setting in the config file, that are locked to 1.33:1 (=4:3) by default.
Fixing this, which i see as a bug, should be a no brainer.
As absurd as it may look, i think the possibility they forgot is not small.
