    I can't see the QuadGT being cancelled & released as an X48 as X48 doesn't support DDR2.
It's also on the global website.
    IX38-MAX now - that I could see.

Seems Abit has adopted the Mushroom theory of marketing, keep them in the dark & feed them
Certainly over the last few years they've never been a great 1 for announcing stuff ahead of time.

There are plenty of people on XS etc. saying if you have an P35 don't bother upgrading to X38 because the performance differential just isn't there to make it worthwhile.

Hi Buff nice to see you've popped in
Yes i'd seen Gary's statement , but had lived in hope.

Maybe the IX38 Max will be an IX48 Max ?? with the IX quadgt launched around Nov 5th.

Yes i'm reconsidering plans, seem fated with abit :-
    Commando relesed before Quad GT
P5K released before Abit IP-35 Pro
    X38 release about 4~5weeks after asus/Gigabyte.

fancy a change from Asus but only real alternatives at the moment are :-
    The Lego Board
    or
    Kermit

    Will have a ponder

    Welcome to the forums mate

I agree with the P35/X38 comparison completely. At the moment, it is swings and roundabouts/horses for courses as far as performance goes. My P5K goes higher FSB wise by about 30FSB, but thats only useful for benching, and it could all change when a new BIOS lands

    Thanks for the welcome

You can't get away from the fact that Asus & Gigabyte are always going to get priority access to chipsets because of their size & companies like abit & DFI have to wait their turn.

The IP35 series are real alternatives too

I was all set for buying an ix38 quadGT, in fact specialtech claimed to have them in the other day and I ordered and they didnt have them.

I'm just wondering though, is the delay because they got the chipset late, or are they getting a decent BIOS on it before they release it?

yes your right, though it costs abit & dfi a significant revenue opportunity.

Have been pondering on the IP35 pro , but am a bit put off by the vdroop with volt mods being the only solution. Currently i'm on 9x420 . As I've said i'm on my 3rd set of ballistix and have a suspicion the board has some culpability in the death of the Micron D9s.
So that's the reason i'm thinking of a change. I'm not sure that the Ip35 pro has the legs to do as much ??

I may just sit with what i have, hoping i'm not going see more ram issues.

You have the alternative of selecting a higher Vcore to compensate for the droop & then letting C1E & EIST drop it for when the CPU is idling.

Currently i'm on 9x436. As I've said i'm on my 3rd set of ballistix and have a suspicion the board has some culpability in the death of the Micron D9s.

It should do but as you know it can vary by individual mobos just like CPUs - some work better than others even though they should be the same.
Probably get some nice warm PWM temps so you would want to ensure airflow in that area.

Having seen some good clocks in the Quad Core OC Database I've looked seriously at the Abit IP35 Pro looking at **Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread** . Have decided to give the Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 a whirl. Probably won't see much performance difference, but will be interested to see how the gigabyte performs, not had one before, also if my ram lasts any longer on the x38

Of course this probably maens the abit x38 QuadGt will be out next week

    Edit:

Not quite, yoyotech are now showing pr-order with 02/11/07 as release date.

Gary Key obviously has 1 incl. a supposedly production BIOS release so it can't be far away.

Still think that I'm going to try & hold off for a Penryn, IX38(48?)-MAX/DDR3 combo as I don't run Crossfire & the difference shown so far with DDR2 seems to be negligible.
