DFI said it's a typo. It's gonna be ICH9R and
not ICH10R. It's gonna be a big battle:
DFI X48-T3R vs. Asus Rampage Formula.
I'm still using an SK8V with an Opteron 250, I've been dying to upgrade but probably lack the discipline to wait for mainstream Nehalem to arrive in mid-2009; I hope that this time
DFI actually builds a motherboard that outperforms other mobos that aren't even hyped as the overclocker's Holy grail. The IP35pro owned the P35-T2R. There is no excuse for
DFI, they are always the last guys to release chipsets and so theoretically they have a big advantage over guys like Asus, who always release motherboards early and worry about improving the
BIOS gradually. This will be
DFI's first DDR3 board if I'm not mistaken, and I wonder if they'll make a smooth transition. And, for some of us out here who don't care about setting
FSB records, I wonder how it will perform day-to-day, not just in benchmarks. Word on the street is that Asus is delaying the release of X48 boards because they still have a stockpile of X38 boards that aren't selling as quickly as they would like, others say it's because AMD are so pathetic right now might as well deploy some profit maximization tactics since there isn't any competition at all. There's been recent good news from AMD, and they seem to be making progress, this business cannot stay like this - it's hurting us consumers.
